To be fair I don't it was ever officially named "The Pit" so this really doesn't change that much.

I wonder if Saul will miss making his annual pilgrimage to Western Illinois of the Summit League to play at the Waste Management Court at Western Hall? I'm not kidding, that's the name.

I think Quidel Convocation Center is a real possibility. They have a large presence in Athens, and the corporation has been doing very well recently.

This makes it all the more heinous. What started out as a practical description of the sunken arena floor evolved into a rallying cry organically. This change is denying the history of the place to Lobo fans who created it.

I'm not a particularly big fan of change, but corporate naming of sports facilities has been around for a long, long time. Wrigley Field has been subtly promoting Juicy Fruit since it was renamed in 1927 (yes, I know he also owned the team). Most other venues are named for wealthy donors and/or owners. I don't see the big deal. Just as I didn't get the fuss when Jacobs Field was renamed after the owner of the Indians swindled his way into a free stadium then had the temerity to name it after himself for next to nothing. I don't miss that moniker, and if the price is right, I don't really care much what they call the Convocation Center. Everyone will still call it the Convo.
