I will say it if no one else will.  On the one hand, we see a heartfelt message from a 21-year-old who is leaving us and soon will be moving on to bigger and better things.  No one told him to express his feelings for his school and community, he did it because of the type of person he is.

On other hand, our former coach, who like Nick worked his ass off while he was here, has also chosen to move on to what he hopes are bigger and better things.  But we've yet to hear a word from him.  No "thanks for the support", no "my family and I could not have enjoyed ourselves more", no nothing.  His actions, too, show us the type of person he is.

No, Jim Christian does not owe us anything other than his buyout.  Neither does Nick.  But the older man in this instance could certainly learn a lot from the younger.

It is interesting and I see what you're saying but I don't see the juxtaposition of the two as an indictment of Coach Christian.  For me, it just goes to show how extraordinary a young man Nick is.  My daughter's loved her 4 years at Ohio but she's not writing a letter to the Post.  It doesn't make her less of a person.  It does show the great character of Nick.

Are you not aware that JC has likely been a bit busy this week .... first the phone call from BC.  Then the inteview and then some waiting for the offer to materialize. Then ironing out what BC was going to offer in the way of  contract to what he wanted. Compromising on terms of the deal. Having an attorney and possibly an agent review everything. Maybe going bck and forth a time or two with BC in negotiations.

The same damn thing happened with Groce.

Who matters most in this? The players and recruits IMO. And he spoke to each of them from what we've heard.

And for the record what Nick did was nice ... at the same time his career at Ohio is over. He has the time to reflect on his 4 years. JC is a bit busy right now and I'd bet my last $ that before he leaves Athens he'll show that he too is a classy individual acknowledging the support from students and the community. But it may not be on your timetable due to other more urgent constraints.

I'm sure the events of the past week have been somewhat overwhelming for Christian to deal with.

As reports have stated, he spoke with the Bobcat team individually to inform them of his opportunity with BC and I would also assume he was in contact with McDavis and Schaus through-out this period as well. Obviously he was dealing with multiple situations with the BC people, the travel issues, etc., during this week as well.

Nick's season and career is over and he has had the "time" to reflect and offer his heartfelt gratitude for his love as a Bobcat and his respect for the Bobcat Nation. I concur this young man is an exceptional human being and a wonderful ambassador for OHIO University.

I'm not sure Christian has honestly had the time to reflect and gather his thoughts. In the Collegiate Athletic "Business" especially when it's an unexpected Head Coaching Change - there is no such thing as a "two week" notice.

I will be surprised if Christian doesn't reach out to the OHIO community in general with his reflections on his time spent here when he has a chance and the timing is right for him.

I will enjoy watching Jim Christian coaching at Bowling Green in 4 years.

I found it odd that BC apparently fired their coach because he had not taken the team to the NCAA tournament in four years, and then they hire a coach who inherited a sweet sixteen team, and has not been to the NCAA tournament in more than four years, coaching in a less competitive conference.

Not sure what sending out a big "thank you" or "we enjoyed our time here" will accomplish. People will then say he's trying to make himself look good or trying to quiet down the criticism. Just one person's opinion, but we need to move on, even if it's purely for mental health reasons.

1. Same thing any Thank You accomplishes.
2. He already looked good, now just even better.
3. "People" is plural. So far just one.
4. He, and we, are moving on................

Groce was extremely complimentary in his u of i press conference and subsequent and ongoing media appearances and continues to speak highly of Ohio and his time here. You totally missed the point. Groce didn't reach out to everyone in Athens during his negotiations with Illinois. That was the point I replied to ... whoever said that JC has yet to say "Thank you".

So your point was that JC and jg were both too busy to reach out to anyone DURING negotiations?

To the fans yes; but they kept players/recruits in the loop. I expect JC will extend his appreciation to the students & community at some point. I still don't get why so many others here want to crucify him for taking a better job.

Come to think of it, I don't recall any other player EVER writing an open letter to the Ohio community thanking them for the support.  Doesn't reflect badly on the players.  Nick's letter just shows what a great guy he is (and what great parents Clark and Rosy are).

I wonder too whether it was Nick's way of reminding his teammates who are thinking about bolting that there are few places like Ohio.

Maybe I am reading into it but I thought this op was commenting about JC not commenting by this point regarding his time at Ohio.

At this point, jg had spoken very highly of Ohio and expressed how hard it was to leave players and the u. He did so in his ui presser. He was very emotional when talking about it, which I do not expect at all out of jc anyway

Perceptions are everything, nerves are raw now and I think had there even been a comment on the subject folks would not be upset.

This This and This!!  Over the years who's written an open letter to OU (dang you people for making me feel guilty about using initials for Ohio!   ) and it's fans?  No one.  I think Nick truly fell in love for Ohio and it's fans, and in return for that and his contributions we fell in love with him.  Stevie's next-that guy has worn his love for Ohio (I wanna say OU) on his sleeve for 3 years.

I must admit I find it odd JC hasn't officially recognized Ohio players and fans by now. I don't begrudge someone for moving onward and upward to bigger things but I hope his personal items are in a box in a Convo hallway and the office doors locks have been changed.

Always a good idea to pack before qutting a job....

We now have a great new coach, whose goal is to take OHIO's basketball program to new heights. He appears to have the ability to do just that. Time to say goodbye and thank you to Nick, and to forgive and/or forget JC for whatever. Time to welcome Coach Saul Phillips, and to thank him for coming to the Home of the Bobcats! He is focused on the future and that is where our focus should be!

BRUCECUTH....Well said...Even JG made some appropriate remarks upon his departure as well as later on.

Ohio rescued JC from 4 years of a losing record and presented him with a team that went to the NCAA tournament several times. Ohio resurrected his career and now he is in the big time ACC. I do think he should make a appropriate statement to the university and the fans.

Saul Phillips quoted in release by SDSU thanking former community, players and administration-

"I would like to thank the Fargo community for the last 10 years," Phillips said. "I have nothing but positive memories from the players I leave behind and the administration that gave me the shot of a lifetime. Transition is always hard, and it is extremely difficult leaving people who I love."

"I also want to thank Gene Taylor and president Dean Bresciani in particular for their support," said Phillips. "There are many others I'd like to thank, and hopefully I get a chance to do that individually."

O

imagine that, less than 12 hours after he accepts a new position he is careful to thank everyone for the time spent.

It is too late for platitudes from our former coach. Sorry somewhere in that whirlwind he could not find a kind word for those who supported him and the program. Priorities and relationships. Perceptions can be telling.

I've now listened to two radio interviews with Phillips where he took time to express his gratitude towards his former program an players. All within 24 hours. Well done Coach.
