If Christian bolts (don't really think BC hires him from what I'm reading but you never know)... would Geno be considered?  He did good at Kent and sort of up and down at the tough Bradley rebuilding job.

This has to be a joke. "He did good at Kent?" - No NCAA Tourney appearances is good? Up and Down at Bradley? More like Down and Further down. He makes $750k and breached a contract. PASS 100 times out of 100. Dustin however, I would take a chance on. Just so we are clear there is no Ford bias.

In hindsight, we should have hired Dustin two years ago. If JC bolts, it won't be because of his acomplishments at Ohio's first and finest.

I agree that the idea of Dustin Ford is intriguing. I think the Geno ship has sailed for both parties. Glad he's an alum, was an entertaining player, but I don't think he's proven much as a coach.

Was he not named MAC coach of the year twice at Kent?

2008–09 Kent State 19–15 10–6 T-3rd CIT 1st Round
2009–10 Kent State 24–10 13–3 1st NIT 2nd Round
2010–11 Kent State 25–12 12–4 1st NIT Quarterfinals
Kent State: 68–37 35–13

OT: ...anybody remember the suggestion that Rick Byrd should have been hired instead of Tim o"shea?

He's now 3 wins away from 600 wins at Belmont...six big dances.  What could have been.

Rick Byrd is an excellent coach but it's not like his success in a lower league has been remarkably better than what we've had here.  Since 2000 he's won 299 games while we've won 293.  He's got an 0-6 record in the NCAA tournament while we're 3-3 in that timeframe.

We've only had one in the last 35 years.

Geno would be a massive turnoff.

the follow up question is- Would Geno Ford be considered if he wasn't an alum? 37-62 after 3 seasons at Bradley? really? Regardless, I don't think a guy making $700k/yr would take a 50% pay cut when he still owes Kent State $1.2m.

Geno hasn't gotten it done at Bradley.  So, no, I don't think so.

I don't see Dustin as a candidate yet either.  Why hire an assistant from a failing Big 10 program?  (Yeah, I said it.)

I'd look at Ohio State or Michigan right now.  Who are the top candidates there?  Also, is there a low-major or division II Greg Marshall type out there willing to jump to the MAC?  Someone like NC Central's Lavelle Moton?

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Isn't Coach Groce and his staff in the process of building a program at Illinois?

agree

They walked into a bare cupboard and a locker room full of "quitters" as Bruce Weber called his team. Groce has hit the recruiting trail hard and has lost a few big recruits to Kansas and Duke.

That failing BIG program went 13-1 OOC and 11-2 OOC with some decent wins the first 2 years. Hard to say that they are failing because they had a tough in conference season against a BIG that put some pretty good teams in the NCAA and advanced them a few rounds. No doubt they were failing....otherwise Weber would not have been replaced. I think they are on the right track and continue to get it right. Really need a recruiting win in the PG category with a Conley like guard as we all know how  Groce's ultimate system depends on a PG that will run the show.

I thnk we would al like to fail on the level that they have in the last 2 years. If we played that OOC schedule and did as well, made and advanced a round in the tourney like they did his first year and then advanced a couple of rounds in the NIT we would be content with the rebuild.

Not going to get into the discussion ad nauseum of whether Groce is doing what he was hired to do as it is too early to tell and I know certain folks are trolling for a reaction anyway.

All that said, I am not on the Dustin bandwagon and certainly do not think Geno even deserves a sniff.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
