RPIForecast (Link below) has a chart with Ohio's RPI over the course of the season thus far.

Can someone please explain to me the LRPI (Lunardi's Preferred RPI)?  Here is how he has the MAC listed:

Akron - 73
Bowling Green - 298
Miami - 299
Ohio - 300
Ball State -301
Buffalo - 302
CMU - 303
EMU - 304
Kent State - 305
NIU - 306
Toledo - 307
WMU - 308

googling it brings up some pretty interesting conversations.

Whatever the formula is it appears pretty absurd.   Any ranking system that has Wichita State at #159 and Maryland at #66 isn't worth all that much.

Found this from a google search

No need to be bugged, Chris. LunaRPI (LRPI) simply excludes home games from the standard RPI calculations. At this point of the season, when many traditional powers have played few (if any) games away from home, the numbers are going to be really screwy. They'll make more sense after a month or so of conference play and become even more helpful in handicapping teams for NCAA tournament purposes.

Hated it.  I have to believe he hasn't even updated the site yet because I find it hard to believe that every MAC team is so bunched and in order.

That's really stupid.

I'll update the RPI and Sagarin numbers soon, but in general, the MAC, after a really good start, is imploding in the last week of OOC games. Akron is the main culprit. Kent State getting whipped at home by Cleveland St wont help either.

That Richmond win really helped us. We are under 60. If we can take care of business, we are going to finish with a good RPI.

Also, Mercer is actually looking like a very good win.

AND, Mercer looks like they'll be able to dominate their conference.

Buffalo winning at Drexel will help the MAC.

The MAC so far is showing definite improvement compared to the past several years.  Hope to see that continue throughout the remainder of the out of conference season.

Jeff,

I would not use Realtime RPI. I have found it to be very inaccurate. It doesn't even list the American Athletic Conference in its rankings.

Best one I've found is:  http://www.udpride.com/images/rpi.htm

Even Statsheet is very accurate: http://statsheet.com/mcb/teams/ohio/rank

OK, thanks, Ted.  I'll use udpride.  I think that's what I used last year.

The middle and bottom of the MAC have gotten better. The top has gotten worse.

I'm not seeing that about the top getting weaker this year. The MAC has two teams in the top 100 right now and that's comparable to the past several seasons, right?

There's three teams in the RPI top 100 according to ESPN (Ohio, Toledo, Eastern Michigan)

There's no drop off at the top unless you go past the records/rpi and go under the assumption that Akron and Ohio were stronger last year compared with the top MAC teams this year.

The bottom is much stronger. The middle is much improved and even the RPI's at the top are going to turn out very solid. I think it's safe to say this is the best the MAC has looked in a long time RPI wise.

If Northern Illinois can win at home tonight against Bethune-Cookman (2-14), then only three teams (Miami, Ball State and BG - could have gotten to 7-6 but lost a close one to IPFW) will enter MAC play with overall records below .500. Of course, that counts quite a few non-Division I wins, but I think it's still a major improvement.

Don't look now but Richmond is beating Florida by 3 with just over 6 to go in the game.  That would help our various ratings if it holds up.

To over-simplify our OOC resume, we had two very good wins in Richmond and Northern Iowa and one bad loss in Oakland. Mercer was also a good win.
The fact that we kept it close in our only other loses to two good OSU and UMass teams helps our resume as well.

Mercer, Northern Iowa and Richmond are all top-100 in the RPI right now.
Hopefully, Mercer can win the A-Sun. Northern Iowa has some tough games in the MVC (including today @Wichita State) if they can finish in the top third of that conference I'd be very happy. Same with Richmond in the A-10.
Also, Oakland isn't looking like as bad of a loss as we thought it was; I think it is completely reasonable to think they can fight back to .500 overall record as they win some games in-conference.

Looking at it on paper, our OOC resume this year was WAY better than last year. We kept it close in 2 of 3 OOC loses and didn't have as many stinkers. Last year we went 14-2 in MAC play. This year we play 16. If we have a similarly successful MAC season, our overal resume is going to be VERY good. Especially with Toledo and EMU having nice OOC seasons. I commented on it being unfortunate we have to play those two MAC West schools 3 times, but looking at it from this prospective we have a shot to really help our computer numbers and postseason resume if we can get wins in those games.

We have to take care of business, but if we do I think our resume is going to look pretty impressive come season's end.

Beat Kent.

The MAC finished 72-59 in Division I non-conference games and 84-60 overall.

I figured a home win over a low RPI Ball State team would still result in a drop in RPI.  It has.  We've dropped from #68 to #83.

Likely partially due in part to OSU's loss as well.  Not exactly sure how RPI is tabulated, but our close loss to them now looks worse.

A couple days ago Northern Iowa lost a MVC life on the road game at SIU... I also have no clue exactly how hard each of these things factor in but I would imagine that hit us.

But now for the good news.....

Richmond beat Dayton today and Northern Iowa beat Missouri State today!!!
Missouri State was right around 90 last I checked and Dayton was right around 50.

Two very good wins for our two best wins.

Don't forget Mercer, they're rolling over everyone they play. would not be shocked if they won out and finished the regular season at 26-5
