The last few seconds of tonight's state championship game was a microcosm of recent discussions on here.

First, Upper Arlington, taking the ball out under own basket up one, has a player run out of bounds to receive pass from player in bounding the ball. That player then sprints down court and receives baseball pass for uncontested layup for 3-point lead.

Then, St. Ed calls timeout with about 3 seconds left. One of their guards, taking ball out of bounds at free throw line extended, throws to teammate, gets ball back, takes a dribble or two, and hits 3-pointer for overtime, where St. Ed wins. I have to think that UA coach Tim Casey, who played at Wittenberg under Larry Hunter, might be thinking he should have fouled at end of regulation.

STO will be replaying this game multiple times the rest of the year.

It was a fun game to watch, but comparing to the college game is tough when they don't have a shot clock. St. Ed's possessed the ball over two minutes before developing an opportunity to score the first pts in OT.

the bigger argument is for separate divisions for the private schools. Just not a fair fight when the public schools are playing "recruited talent".

Good game.

UA could have run out the clock on that long pass with only 5 seconds left??

A lane violation that gave Eds another free throw? I didn't see it, but replays were not that great.

Ed's kids made thier free throws at the end of regulation and OT and got a little lucky.

Incredible game. Kipper is a monster for St. Eds. Vannatta (UA, headed to UNC Ashville) was a stud this year and absolutely clutch in the tournament. First Team DI. I predict he'll have a very good college career.

I'm still shocked by the lane violation call. It was nothing that doesn't happen on 1/2 of foul shots in any game. Nobody sitting by me noticed it. Frame by frame on replay you can see he released a tiny bit early. IMO, the ref should eat the whistle at that point in the game, unless they're going to call it every time.

A quote from Casey, "We talked about (fouling), yes,” UA coach Tim Casey said. “We absolutely talked about fouling, but we wanted (Hamilton) to shoot it. We were willing to take a chance with the other guys and (Hamilton) just made the shot.”

Hamilton is not a good 3-point shooter. Who knows. I'm glad I didn't have to make the call.

Tough game for me to listen to, since I'm a UA alum. We have only one state championship in basketball, and this was our first trip to states since 1939...

Still proud of them for making it this far, and with our star player, Kevin Vannatta, headed to UNC-Asheville, hopefully it's not long before Ohio starts recruiting some Golden Bears!
