Not sure what makes their hire so great. No big time head coaching experience. Asst. many years. Has the name Wichita State associate head coach with a six year contract $325 thousand contract. What makes him any better then what they have had for the last 15 years?? BG still Sucks!!

the last BG head coach with "big time head coaching experience" was Louis Orr. How'd that work out for them? I don't recall John Groce having any but he turned out alright. Looks like a step in the right direction for the Falcons.

I agree with both of your Orr and Groce comments. Louis Orr was a disaster hire at BG and their AD who hired him left town before Orr did. Orr was awful! BG got stuck in a lame duck season with him this past year and their fans were livid and many turned away in disgust. There's no way Chris Jans is as bad as Orr was with or without head coaching experience. This is an instant upgrade for them as Orr drove that program into the ground. BG has been down ever since Dakich left for WVU and returned but I feel this is the hire that puts them back in the think of the MAC. Probably not next season, but likely the year after that. Their new AD appears to be one who rolls up his sleeves and gets things done as he also made a hire there in football a couple months ago for opposite reasons. I think this was a good hire for BG but only time will tell.

Let's not make Groce to sound like he came out of nowhere, though. Anyone who is anyone in college hoops felt Groce was a slam dunk hire. It seemed like people were counting down his days in Athens before he even coached his first game.

Our group was in Baroney's in September with the napkin challenge to predict how long Groce would be in Athens....one of many napkin challenges. I think TRMD nailed it. You are very right on that one Brian
