Whoops, meant to post this in football, but while we're at it, let's schedule them for basketball as well!

Why would we want to schedule them for either?

Uh, why not? I know you're neither Aaron Stone nor Alan Swank, but you're about to become just as non-credible. All you need to do is bash the O-Zone without legitimate reason and you're there!

I would be totally behind this idea but I'll bet it isn't as simple as it sounds.  Maybe in hoops but but Army, Navy , even Air Force are pretty high profile football programs.  They are almost certainly money makers if they come to your place (not a given) and are probably somewhat choosy about who they pay at home (intended spelling).

It's an interesting question for someone (else) to dig into.

Also consider that in football Army and Navy are independents, both have 8-9 games a year to fill (after the Army/Navy/Air Force games + Notre Dame are accounted for), but have a conference schedule for Basketball (Patriot League)

Just not sure we're shooting for the stars by hoping we schedule service academies.  Seems like a good plan to fall back on if we're convinced we're never getting another BCS program to come to Athens.

In football, maybe.

In hoops, Hell no. They're terrible. There is no upside.

Well, the Naval Academy is 30 minutes from my house...so there's that.

I understand your thinking here, I just feel it would be cool to see them play in the Convo and then go to a road game at an academy, neat experience for the players!

I think it's a good idea - maybe Coastguard for an exhibition to start the season and then down the coast to Annapolis. Book it.

I would pay good money to see a BA.com credibility power ranking.

In what world does a road exhibition against a 5-20 DII team make sense? Or a road game against a team that is among the worst in the country and averages 2,200 in attendance? No. Just no.

Agreed. Outside of Navy Football, all the service academies are irrelevant and add nothing to our schedule

I was at the Ohio-Navy basketball game years ago. Its a neat place to watch a game. I don't think we have room for it in this day and age under JC when we are scheduling 1 for 1's with MVC and A10 schools.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

I was at this game, as well.  Like someone mentioned above their basketball program is not very good, but it's a nice road game in a quality venue and location.  They've played at Mason and UMD, as well, over the past few years.  I wish they could come back to this metro area every season!

Navy did play at Toledo this year in football, and have played several MAC teams over the past decade - most recently a home/home with Temple and they hosted CMU a couple of years ago.  Unfortunately, it's probably too late as they are moving into the AAC in 2015 (if it still exists), which means scheduling non-conference games will be more difficult.

Agreed.  The only way you do it is to give Tariq Owens a game near his parents in his Senior year.  Even then there are a lot better programs we could schedule in the Washington, DC-Baltimore market.
