We had several more weekend games last year (including Marshall)...so you'd expect that it may not be as high. The MAC schedule was the heaviest in weekday games that I can remember for a while. Hopefully that gets considered when they are crafting next year's schedule.

Satisfied with this attendance average.  Of course, we always want to continue to increase attendance, but this figure for this season is right in line with last year's attendance.  Not that much difference.

Also, bornacatfan will love this, but you gotta figure in weather, too.  Worst winter in recent memory probably made travel challenging at times.

We still average more than the capacity of most schools, so that's always a very promising sign

watched part of the UNC @ Duke game the other night and was reminded how small their gym is, capacity is just 9,314. Ohio had 4 home games this year larger than a Duke sell out. You could never draw that kind of comparison to a power conference school in football.

I think it seems like we've had more fans at away games this year, but I doubt you can get the stats on that one

I actually was disappointed by last season's attendance numbers (relatively) and encouraged by this season's tally. Cooper being gone would've been an easy breakoff point for attendance numbers. And I thought after the Sweet 16 that Athens might've caught the fever it did with Trent. It never got that to that level. I don't know if a coaching change muffled the excitement or if economically, 7k is now the cap for average attendance in Athens. I hope not.

The 94-95 season had an average of 8102. Without a national name like Trent, 7k looks like the best we can do.

It seemed to me the numbers were way more inflated in the Trent era though too. And, in general, numbers seemed less inflated this year for some reason. Or perhaps "more accurate" is the better term!

Maybe this didn't have a significant impact on attendance then, but the women's games at that time were right before the men's games. Were women's games an extra draw? Maybe. Maybe not.

Also, wasn't that the era of the MAC that included other future NBA players like Bonzi and Emmanuel Lewis...er...Earl Boykins?

Trent era? Of course attendance was a bump. NIT preseason Champs. #11 in the country. Plus Trent. Trent did not disappoint - he was a monster in the paint - "WOW" factor every game - guaranteed!

Reading articles like this one always makes me think how lucky we are with our facility.  History can only go so far (just ask the Chicago Cubs) as you can see with Fordham (perennially in last place of the A-10).

That was a great era for the MAC.  Before the MAC went to sleep on coaches salaries and overall program support.

What has been the effect on basketball attendance from the change to semesters? Positive? Negative? None overall?

If I were to guess without doing any research, I'd say a negative.  My logic is simply that the first and last conference games of each season are now played while students aren't on campuses.
