Man....at least for me it was one of the worst video feeds ever. 3 seconds on and 10 seconds frozen in a loop. Add to that trying to figure out a team losing 3 straight at home and basically beating up on Bowling Queen with no Stevie or N'Dour.

Doing this for 25 years can wear you out. Oh well, I must Love My Bobcats.

Wish the MAC had a subscription service for games that aren't on TV.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I hope that is coming Lucky. I'd pay something. The good news is that content and convenience will become more a reality for all of us over the coming years. It will only get better (I hope).

I would really hate to pay for that BG feed.  I thought there might've been a problem somewhere between BG and the MAC website so I went to BG's website and they wanted $8 for that feed.  I wonder if the people who paid got a better feed.  I just listened to Russ through most of the first half, then tried to sync Ohio's audio and the MAC website video starting with the 2nd half.  The video was more than three minutes behind Russ' audio.  I wonder if the game is just ending now on the video.

I didn't think it was possible to offer a worse webcast than ours, but then I watched BGSU tonight. Constant freezing, no score displayed, no time/score check by the announcers. Just brutal all the way around.

While the world benefits from exponential advancements in video streaming technologies, the MAC continues to regress. Its beyond embarrassing.

What's funny is that if you go to the BG website and click on the video link for tonight's game, there is an option to buy it for $8. Which would have been dumb on many levels.

I agree.  One of the worst webcasts I've watched since maybe the first year of webcasts when I had DSL and not a cable ISP.  But, you have to remember that this is coming from the ugliest campus in Ohio that looks like the buildings were dropped in place by a US Air Force Bomber coming home from WWII.

On the larger point, I would certainly pay for some kind of high-quality MAC Access.  (Until we go to a better conference, Monroe.)  Perhaps the MAC could trailblaze and develop an AppleTV app!   Well, a guy can dream can't he?

The good news, of course, is that OHIO won a game in which they had multiple players injured and not playing at all or playing limited minutes.  Great job, guys!

Correction, that should be U.S. Army Air Corps!

Crazy part was I was watching game on webcast and following Akron/Buffalo on IPad/ESPN.com.  Seemed strange that ESPN had Ohio/BG game time/score wrong the entire second half.  Webcast still had like 5 minutes left to go in game and ESPN marked it as a Final Score.  Just assumed there was a glitch on the ESPN site as the game was still being played and they had the score/time wrong for some reason.  By chance I turned on the Ohio radio broadcast and they were doing the post game show.  Kind of a bummer that I didn't get to enjoy watching the last 3 minutes of the game (though the video feed was hard to enjoy), yet still a relief that the final confirmed that we didn't meltdown down the stretch of the game as I knew the final before the webcast had ended.

It seems that the ESPN site routinely has a glitch in the lady few minutes of a game. I frequently follow along when traveling or have to work and find that the score "freezes" in the later part of the game.

I intern at Canisius College and do some color commentary for them and we have an online feed that's a 100 times better than Ohio's and the rest of the MAC feeds.

You have to pay for the feed but it is way better quality, updated scoreboard with game clock, graphics, timely replays (not every score), halftime packages, pre-game/post-game shows and more.

The amazing part of it, Canisius is only a MAAC school. Canisius is a small, catholic private school in Buffalo which doesn't have a massive budget for athletics but has a feed that rips apart any feed in the MAC. It's just funny to me.

and you get to watch Paul Baron.s brother and Nephew in action. What could be better?

Why don't you forward your ideas and constructive criticisms to smithe10@ohio.edu  ; Tanner Smith

Not sure how far it will get you as he seems to think there was no buffering or pixilation issues during the Buffalo or WMU games.

Perhaps someone in the field with knowledge of the equipment used and background regarding the broadcast would have a better chance of helping him understand the difference between what we are putting out compared to Canisius. We have folks in places where they are doing it well ...Canisius, Big South schools..... they are telling how they are doing it well yet our department does not seem to want any input. From what I am hearing it is not all that expensive and seems to really reach out to the fanbase.

Oddly enough, I think the feed we saw last night at BGSUcks is the same one they charge eight bucks a pop for.  What a ripoff!

I really hate the ones that stream the same video they show on the scoreboard.  There's one MAC school that shows three replays of every good thing the home team does, so you hardly see any of the visiting team's possessions.

Not really knowing anything about the current setup, it would seem that it could be done more professional looking with multiple cameras, overlaid graphics, scores, etc. for about $25K the first year (for the service and the hardware/cameras) and then 1/2 that for just the service in the future.

Service:

http://new.livestream.com/plans?utm_source=internal&u...

Hardware (the one even looks like it's a portable system that comes in a suitcase looking design..take it Wren, Peden?)

http://store.livestream.com/pages/livestream-studio-hardware

This is the same service that the A-10 is using.  I'm going to try and watch St Joes vs GW tonight at 9:00 and compare the quality.  I was watching a live "Cosmos" event on their service last night in HD and it looked amazing even at full screen.  I would up my OBC donation by $100 or $200 a year if it included a free subscription to a feed that looked as good as what I saw last night in the Cosmos live Q&A event.

It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to put one dedicated/quality network drop in the Convo, Wren, Peden, etc. that has priority bandwidth on the network for streaming the feed up to the distributing service.

I'm sure there is a young ANorris on campus who is studying how to put all the camera feeds and graphics into one output and knows how to run the hardware/software.  How is this not a class project, or even a regular class with actual earned credits for the students on campus?

We don't have video boards at Canisius so we just use the feed from our two camera's we set up. One focuses on close ups, the other does a wide shot. It works really well. We have a production team for each broadcast, a director, graphics person, two cameramen, and there's a few other work study people that help out. It's turns out to be a solid production.

Yea, it's pretty awesome getting to watch Billy Baron. He's one of the best players I've seen in person.

I think the issue with everything is that Ohio wants to keep their stream free but isn't willing to put more money into it. They could have a better stream but that would require charging people and I don't think they're willing to do that.

I know for a fact that they have to know how to improve it. They're smart people. I've seen the amazing things they can do up close. It's just a choice as to if OU actually wants them to improve it in my opinion.

Quality is great , programming is great, access is easy.

www.bigsouthsports.com/video

Horizon league is live and free and access to good stuff ( live look in on conference championships in progress. )

www.horizonleague.org/video.htm

The MW is live and free

www.themw.com/#!/watch-live

The MAAC is a nice subscription site

www.maacsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml

Asun,tv is prettygood graphics, quality and it is free as far as I can see

asun.neulion.com/asc/console

Colonial live is free
www.caasports.com/LiveEvents.dbml

I could probably find some pretty good info on how they set these up but I only had about 10 minutes to run through and throw this up here for giggles. Wish  I had the time to watch this Horizon tourney.

Just a follow up to my earlier post...I'm not sure if the St Joes vs. GW game is internet or tv.  Production and video 720P HD are outstanding.

450 other people are watching it right now.

http://new.livestream.com/a10/events/2690691

It even has local DVR capabilities.

Off topic, I love GW's court with the DC monuments.

EDIT:  Looks like it's an actual TV production (on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus, SNY, CSN Philadelphia), but the online video is still great quality.

Thanks for posting.  I watched the last few minutes of the GWU-SJU game.  Very good quality feed.  It reminded me of the feed from the Richmond game earlier this season, which I thought was the best I'd seen to that point. There's no reason that the MAC can't increase the quality of its game feeds.
