Agree 100%.

Can't see top progress in MAC tourney without him at 10-12 minutes a game. Good stuff happens underneath when he plays.

Campbell had a terrible minute at Toledo, failing to dive on a loose ball in the lane then letting a rebound go off his hands and out of bounds on the following defensive possession. JC had strong words for him on the bench. I think that might have been a lightbulb kind of moment, because he's immediately made the most of minutes since that.

DIdn't see the bad moments at Toledo. But I've seen a fair number of minutes out of The Real Estate Agent (buys lots of territory underneath) over a number of games and he seems to do fine work underneath. I'd give him some latitude because 1) if he gives us 10-12 good minutes a game this year, that really helps us and 2) over the next 3+ years I think that he's going to play a lot of effective minutes--and might as well start that now.

He seems to do the good, near the hoop, tough stuff that wins games. You likey.

I would argue he has been our best most consistent bench player all year. Campbell only gets a couple minutes a game but he always makes them count. I love that. that's not easy to do either. to come into a game with no idea how its flowing and with not having taken any shots or moved in awhile. that is difficult and I can't applaud him enough.

The high-low from Ndour was a thing of beauty. Great play by Campbell but a great play by Ndour as well for trusting his freshman teammate and making the pass.

+1 I had both of those thoughts right after that play. That's one of the things that I really love about this team. They really all believe in each other and have great TEAMwork. I thought that JG's teams played well together, but I now think we are getting into something even more special. It's the kind of team work not seen since McDivitt was in the pivot!

On those outlet passes, Campbell looks a lot like Wes Unseld...same size, etc. Campbell is great on the outlets.

My favorite part of his game is the head up and look for the outlet. Wasn't Unseld like 6'7 on a good day? . I always thought him and Barkley were two of the best small Big Men in basketball history...... IIRC I alwys thought Willis Reed looked huge standing beside Unseld but then when he stood beside Russel and Chamberlain he looked much smaller. On a recent trip to Lousiville I had the good fortune to see the gym and trophy case at Seneca HS. That was cool.

You are correct about big Wes's lack of height, but he made up for it with his bulk, along with long arms and great hands. I got to play some summer camp ball with Wes back in the day during summers spent at Clair Bee's Kutchers in an area tabbed the "jewish rockies" because of all the resort hotels in the area of upstate New York. His huge hands allowed him to handle a basketball like it was a softball in his hand. He could make the longest, most accurate outlet passes I had ever seen a post man throw. Each summer NBA players showed up at the hotel to hold the annual Maurice Stokes benefit game. During that week the evening pick-up counselor games, normally all college players, always featured a number of NBA guys who "got next". Some fun games, and big Wes could rebound the ball !

Tony explained in an interview why hes so good at outlet passes:

1) You started high school as a quarterback. What’s the story behind your switch to basketball?
“My freshman year in high school, I was the varsity starting quarterback. Then, the second or third game into the season, I broke my left elbow and shattered it into pieces. I had to get surgery, and I had to get screws in it. I was told if I were to get hit hard again, it would shatter again, and I would need another surgery. The screws are actually still in my elbow today. So, I just retired from football and decided to play basketball.”

2) What skills from football do you bring onto the basketball court?
“Outlet passing, being able to throw the ball the length of the court.”

Yeah. And in the same interview, Tony says he models his game after Kevin Love, especially Love's outlet passing. And in some research I did on this, I found out that Kevin Love's father Stan Love played with Wes Unseld and that he taught his son Kevin to model his outlet passing after the way Wes did it. Wes is aware of this. So it's a skill that is being passed down by some great guys. Glad we have a player on our team who values this.

He was more like 6'5" but strong as an ox. I got to meet him twice (once as a player and once as a coach) and he was gracious both times. He was one of the those players that did everything that needed to be done to win.

I always liked Unseld. That's why I compared Tony's outlet passing to Unseld's. Looks very similar. Tony can continue to develop this skill.

Read an interesting article that said Unseld got along with almost everybody. Only guy he didn't get along with was Elvin Hayes because of his self centered attitude.

I think this is a big area for improvement. If they can get the inside passing game working, our quickness will be hard to beat on the inside, especially when the outside game is clicking.

It's funny but the first time I met him I was walking around the concourse of the Capital Centre well after one of their games and Wes and Elvin came walking along. My brother, who was wearing an Unseld T-shirt, asked for their autographs. Wes commented on the t-shirt and lightly jabbed Elvin that he wasn't wearing a Big E t-shirt. He then asked us where we went to school and how long we had been Bullets fans. We ended up talking to him for about ten minutes until Hayes, who hadn't said a word to us, told him that they had to go. Up until that moment I had been a bigger fan of Elvin but not after. At the time I didn't really fault Hayes but Wes really made a big positive impression on me.

I have a hard time understanding why Setty seems to get more PT than Campbell. Especially last night against a larger, more physical team. It would be nice to see Smith, Campbell and NDour on the court at the same time and run a zone defense. We still have Treg and Wadley to rotate in and out for the bigs and this would also help in our guard rotation if Stevie and T.J. continue to see limited or no playing time.

Western is a good team, but not unbeatable. We did not give ourselves a chance last night.
