I hate to sound like a negative person right now but I just don't feel like we're going to make it to Cleveland this year and stay to play on Friday. I feel like it's Toledo, Western, Akron and Buffs that will be 1-4 and Eastern 5th, which means we have to play our way from home to quarters and then into Friday. Just feel like this team is like the team that lost to Balls late at night with Devaughn and Tommy playing during Nick's freshman year.

We'll probably play on Thursday. Lot's of hoops left.

Buffalo still has us and Akron.

WMU still has Toledo.

Etc, etc.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

Two years ago we took the long way to the MAC championship and the NCAA tourney.  Of course, the format was different...but who knows.  I like that there's no quit in this team and that we're seeing improvement from key bench players, especially Campbell.  We need a David McKinney to step up and give us some spark off the bench.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Perhaps this is an issue. Built for endurance--not.  Other than Nick and a few on the bench, this team physically is simply too lanky.  Early season, a team like that will have abundant energy and quicks but not so as the late days of February come howling.

Heavy weight boxers will tell you that leaning on the opponent before the ref can split you zaps energy as fast as body blows--get a slightly taller boxer to corner the shorter guy and drape himself over the guy and let the shorter guy hold up the two, even for a second or two and legs that have already gone 8-10 rounds simply become wobbly.

Smith and N'dour and TJ have no meat on them.  When McCrae and Tree and a host of other guys are working them over game after game it simply must take a toll.  The quickness cannot be maintained for the full game, resulting in mistimed passes, dribbling off your foot, missed shots and opponents getting numerous second chance points.
No Washington's, VK's, Big Reg or even an Ivo to push back with body mass vs pushing using all energy burning muscle.

When the Bobcats are hitting their threes than those games may result in the wins but down in the trenches the OHIO bigs keep getting worked over and are running low on the type of energy it would take to sweep in Cleveland.

Time to adapt to a strategy now that lives by the three and preach to box out down low to avoid the second chance points-maybe all zone and pray the opponent is cold on the three's that game?.

Currently, not enough healthy bodies to get to Cleveland.  And, no consistent PG play.  I do think the size thing will be addressed by JC.  I just don't see much improvement in the PG situation at this point.  Like everyone, I think C-bell needs more PT.  And, yup, use 3-bigs periodically with kellogg and wilkin to bomb away.  Use TJ and Bean off the bench.

With our entire team healthy we are the best team in the MAC. That includes Ric. Without Ric, T.J., Stevie, Mo with his back, even Wingfield this year we just aren't deep enough anymore. I feel like JC has done an admirable job considering the lineups he's had to work with and the loss of the four seniors. We lost a pair of 1,000-point scorers and four starters and are 18-8! Travis is this team's X factor. He wasn't hitting against WMU and if Setty plays one more minute than Tony the rest of the way I'm going to faint.

Anything can happen. Some teams play better in the tourney then others. We have the talent to win. That being said the MAC is so tight this year we might not even make it to Cleveland. We lost to ball state at home

Buffalo is only one game ahead of Ohio. Beat them at home and Ohio will have a good shot of finishing with at least the same record. Basically the same schedule to close out the year with the exception of who is home and away. Just when Eastern Michigan looked like it could get in the mix, it lost to NIU tonight and still has games vs. Toledo and WMU left.

I agree.  We probably won't catch Toledo, WMU, Akron...and EMU or whoever probably won't catch us.  Buffalo and Ohio are battling for that 4 seed.  And there is a huge difference between the 4 and the 5.

Borna,
Not feeling to optimistic after what I saw vs WMU.  Not enough beef, toughness from our bigs.  You can hide that for awhile with quicks and hustle, but this time of year the cream rises to the top.  Very concerned about us defensively inside tomorrow.  Hopefully coach KD will doze off and forget to jam the ball inside, but I doubt it.

Think you're talking about BG, but that was a bad loss.

I'm confident Ohio will be in Cleveland, just how long is the question...

Our cream has had two broken legs, a back injury, and a death in the family.

Can't argue with title of thread. No point guard, injuries, lack of scorers and now struggling to win games inside the Convocation Center. It's going to be very difficult to make it to C-Town.

The factor for us is health.  The healthier we are, the farther we go.  Applies to rest of season.

I agree totally. And I feel bad feeling so negative. Heck, like I've said in other posts, being 18-8 would be an accomplishment if this team were 100 percent healthy. Really? Ric, T.J., Jon, Stevie and Travis returning from a supergroup of winning seniors? I expected little offense. But JC has done a wonderful job. I still believe that if we had Ric the whole season, even with the nagging injuries with the other guys, we easily beat Bugs, Kron and Oakland. We probably beat Western in one game and lose to Western and Toledo in the others. That would give us a 22-4 record right now. I truly believe he was turning into that kind of difference maker.

After Wed. game it is certainly easy to think on the negative side. However, a win today and we are back in it. Also, don't forget things can happen to other teams that can help us as well.
We have all seen teams go from hot to cold at different times during the season year after year.
So I'm not going negative.
