Any indications of what ticket sales have looked like to this point?

Also, is it acceptable to wear dark green or must you absolutely positively have a black shirt on?

Heard they should be pretty good...but I'd only expect 10k or so. Heard the bigger crowd should be for Miami the following week, though.

And I don't think the shirt police will be there. But given all the new security, who knows!

Security - What is with this? I think we have more in the Convo suddenly than will be at the Super Bowl Sunday (certainly more per attending fan ratio - by factor of about a hundred). Do they help bump up reported attendance figures? Sure looks to maybe be a worse than typical logjam getting in potential as well for big attended games - one aisle for ticket checks, two for bag checks and general "I have a Security shirt" grandstanding

Security was all paid for and brought in by OUPD. From what I can tell, athletics staff hate it and actively try to circumvent them when possible.

The same police chief that brought us the tailgating czars is behind this too. Heard that security checks at other events (volleyball, baseball, etc.) is probably happening next year too.

Seems like a giant waste of university money to me.

I hate security checks.  Always hated the ones at Peden since I couldn't bring in a sippy cup of water for my 2 year child and had to check it at the gate.  Not happy to see it hit the Convo.

If you are currently holding a ticket for the Toledo game, look carefully at the game time. It will say TBA, or in some instances, 6 PM. These are wrong. The game is at 1:00 -- Eastern Standard Time for our Indiana friend -- in order to be featured on the ESPN family member that must resort to sit-in bathtub commercials to fill TV time outs. My advice is to be at the game. If you don't have a ticket yet, go get one. Do not watch this game on television. Nothing has damaged me greater than the indelible image of a naked octogenarian shot at an angle several degrees past appropriate while the red hat halted play. I will gladly watch a relatively sober marketing student try to catch a rubber chicken in a laundry basket to avoid that horror again.

Traffic and weather is irrelevant. A naked octogenarian has made it that way.

This game is also the "Blackout" game. My Mom always said there were only three things that looked good in black: Supreme Court Justices, Model T Fords, and Frank Sinatra. I will once again decline participating in this display. I am opposed to blackouts of any sort since I was in New York City in 1977. My family had arranged for me to purchase a Pontiac from an old friend in The Bronx. It was July, I was already pretty much lost in the city, and then the power went out. I retreated to my hotel room and barricaded the doors and windows while chaos ruled outside. Two days later, I emerged from the room unshaven and reeking of onions for no earthly reason. The dealership had been ravaged and my Lemans was never recovered. I'm wearing green tomorrow.

Toledo may be the greatest team to ever play in the Convo that was ineligible for post-season play the previous year. They are good. Really good. No, I'm serious, Gee. Oh. Oh. Dee. Five guys averaging double figures, and one of them is Amish! They average 75 points per game in conference play and they are among the better free throw shooting teams in the MAC.

When UT lost to Kansas to end their perfect season, most accepted that. When they lost to Western Michigan days later, most rolled their eyes and said that it was all a sham and the Rockets were quickly forgotten about. A couple weeks later, though, they rolled into the JAR and obliterated Akron. The juggernaut talk was quickly reestablished.

If the Bobcats don't bring a 40 minute game to the floor, Saturday will be a long day.

Good stuff. Parts of Indiana are on EST, although I'm not sure where the cutoff lies. I know this was a big deal for the 500 when Indianapolis went to EST.

Toledo is the real deal.  Balanced, talented lineup.  Good depth.  Good coaching.  Don't turn it over much.

They get to the line a lot more than their opponents.  They outrebound their opponents, and everyone on their roster is part of that.  They have an excellent assist to turnover ratio.

The one weakness is defensive FG percentage.  Could partially be due to their pace and taking chances, letting opponents get out in transition.  I think sometimes from what I've seen they will build a lead then get a little careless on the defensive end of the floor.

While they are the best team in the MAC right now, they're not unbeatable.  Western has already proved that.  They have had a lot of close games.

Defense will be the key tomorrow.  Not getting in foul trouble and letting them beat us at the FT line.  I think our biggest matchup problem is Weatherspoon.  Ric's not around to do it, someone else gotta step up.

juice Brown is a DJ Cooper-type PG.  Can we stop his dribble penetration, which opens up dishing to others?

Also, I don't think we can afford one of those 2 for 20 days from three.  We're going to need a few of em.

Toledo is the closest the MAC has to a so-called "power" conference team.  Not only do they have five guys averaging double figures, they also get 20 pts a game from their bench.  They don't lose much when they substitute.

We will get by.
We will get by.

Decent summaries by Fake Jeff McKinney and (Real) Jeff McKinney. I have enjoyed watching the Rockets' progression as Coach Kowalcyzk has built his team.  I expect Toledo to stay near the top of the league as long as he is in the job.

A couple of other thoughts:

Fake Jeff's mom knows little about the color black. Leaving Johnny Cash and Tommy Lee Jones off  the list of people/things that look good in black? Troubling. I only hope Fake's horizon expands beyond what Momma says in this case.

Real Jeff is right about Toledo's ability to get to the free throw line. I say give them a dose of their own medicine by attacking the basket. Kent State did this with some success until late in the game on Sunday.

I'll be watching the game on ESPNU, but is there really not a webcast of this game?

I honestly find that a little hard to believe. There is a watch link up on the portal through ohiobobcats.com, and I would assume it will also be available through the MAC live streaming website.

Joe, it was weird.  Kent State had a lot of success against Toledo driving to the bucket, but then all of a sudden the Flashes grew timid when crunch time arrived.  Just dribbled and passed it around the perimeter and threw up bad shots.  Cost them the game.

Is anyone else terrified of what Juice Brown can do to Stevie/Bean?  If they can't contain him and keep him from getting in the lane at will, able to distribute to Toledo's many talented scorers (and score himself), we could be in trouble.  I'd like to think if we can take better care of the ball and shoot the ball like our guys are capable, we keep this thing tight.  If we're not making shots and Toledo is getting what they want on the offensive end, this could get ugly real fast...and as others have said, there won't be a comeback from down 18 against this team.  If it's a close game, I see the Cats coming out on top.

No webcast due to it being an ESPN family of networks game.

In re: toughest guard--
Not that both guys can't/won't go off on us, but I'm more concerned about Rian Pearson than JD.  He's been a matchup problem before, and losing the guys we lost last year and Ric this year, I'm nervous.  I feel like we have a better chance to match up against JD with Maurice/Jon.

It still seems odd. The games that have been on ESPN3 this year, were still also available through the Ohio website and the MAC website as well.

IMO the key to the game is going to be Stevie.  If we get attacking Stevie we could fare well.  If we get passive Stevie we could be in for a tough day.

Those games were through TWC and picked up by ESPN Fullcourt.  Had they been an ESPN3 exclusive, they would have not have been streamed.

Even the TWC deal was probably brokered behind the scene to address the people in Ohio who get blacked out.  Looks like the compromise was the school can put up a video feed, different than the video feed from TWC, and synch it to the local radio.

I was also in NYC in July, 1977. I went to see the Big Red Machine play the Mets in a weekend series and remember being on an escalator with Pete Rose in downtown Manhattan when the power went out. Spent the next few hours stuck on that escalator talking baseball and gambling with Charlie Hustle.

Looks like about 4,000 seats left. Good walk up and fairly strong student turnout should be over 9K, maybe push 10K

I guess the combined IQ for Pete and I wasn't high enough for us to figure that out. However, the two of us did combine for over 4,000 major league hits.
