Always good to see former Bobcats back at the Convo. They sat Brandon Hunter & his girlfriend beside me today. Very nice guy, happy to be back in Athens. I could tell he's kept up on some of the guys in the past couple years (& TOS). Still in playing shape, but going to do the agent thing now (mentioned in other threads). Best of luck to him.

I saw you rubbing shoulders with him all game and was about to text you to tell him to wait for me...luckily he hung around long enough for me to say Hey and take a pic. Still my favorite Bobcat...not only because his 4 years as a student were my 4 years as well, but damn he was good and a class act. Great to see him.

To piggyback...BHunt has joined up with KMG Sports (Cincy) as a player development associate.

So I go to their website (sportsagentusa.com) and at the top of their LATEST TWEETS feed I see:

"Jerome Tillman had 30 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal in the win for .http://t.co/gTk0EkyNno  ReplyRetweetFavorite"

I don't think Brandon's #34 will ever hang in the rafters. I don't think he graduated and he never won a POY/championship. I enjoyed him and Esterkamp a ton. After the Cincinnati game their freshman year, I was convinced we'd win a couple of championships. It never developed always lacking the point guard.

B-Hunt did graduate, right on schedule in 2003.  I remember his name being called.

The under-achieving teams of his time does hurt his chances of hanging in the rafters.

Seems silly to me. He was the first player in a long time to be drafted, and may be the last for a long time, too. Sure, his team's may have underperformed, but hanging that on his seems unwarranted. Frankly, it's amazing that a team starting Zach Keikow at PG was as good as they were. He also had a new coach to adjust to. But, you're probably right.

Great news that he graduated. I remembered when he declared as a junior and thinking I wonder if this is academic related. As usual if you assume something, you end up looking like something. I think not winning a POY hurts him more than the underperforming teams. It is a team game so the team's performance should effect his legacy. Great Bobcat but I am not sold as being rafter worthy.

As for those Hunter teams, how can teams with Hunter, Esterkamp, Sonny Johnson, Anthony Jones, and Flomo not win at least the tournament. Not to mention playing with Stonerook for a year. Then I remember the Grunkenmeyer 3 and realize that was the team that should've won the tournament.

Those teams were the only ones that could regularly beat Trevor Hoffmann and Antonio Gates. I still clearly remember Gates asking the whole ozone to meet him in the parking lot after the game. Actually that might have been pre-ozone days.

First team all MAC for three years
Led NCAA in rebounding one year
2000 points and 1000 rebounds
Graduated

I think he's pretty much a shoe in for Ohio HOF.

Remind me again, what is the difference between "hall of fame," "retired jersey," "honored jersey" and other other honors we have for players. From the last time I recall this being discussed, we don't actually retire any numbers, just honor jerseys...

Personally, I buy into "the more banners/jerseys in the Convo rafters the merrier." Certainly not every good player for us is going in the rafters but I don't think throwing up a guy as good as Hunter is going to upset any of the current honorees. Leading the NCAA in rebounds and getting drafted are quite impressive achievements alone.

Where can I find the full-list of honored Bobcat's basketball greats? I think I remember them all, but I would hate to miss any. Hunter and Cooper are certainly the two recent players I think are most deserving to get in.

Thanks for posting that video.  Brought back some good OHIO memories.  Was that the most threes in Brandon's career?  I remember him more as an inside guy with an occasional outside shot.  Always loved Flomo and enjoyed seeing his dunks and swats in this game again.  If I recall correctly, the Post ha some headline after the game about OHIO burning up Tobacco Road or some such.  I would agree that Brandon is a shoe-in for the OHIO HOF.  It was great to see him back for a game.

I think this was the main reason why Larry Hunter was fired (after Hunter/Esterkamp sophomore year in which Ohio went 12-6 in the MAC).  At that time, the prevailing thought was "we should be better than we are."  I certainly thought that as a student, and supported the Larry firing.  Then it was 2 years of much the same with O'Shea.

One thing to remember is the MAC was a lot stronger then.  And in hindsight, I am not so sure it was a great roster.  Hunter was incredible...Esterkamp & Flomo were specialists.  There were holes in the roster, most notably at PG.

You may have seen something else but I have a copy of the Post from the day after the game in my OU memory box with the headline "Ohio Makes Tarheels Sing Baby Blues" or something along those lines .

That game was great but frustrating in the sense of why we couldn't play like that against fellow MAC schools every night.  As I recall that season ended with a head scratching loss at home to CMU in the first round of the MAC tourney.

I knew someone was going to bring that game up.  The most uninspired basketball game I have ever seen Ohio play.  That was a terrible night.

Tough game, but a tough game that included a very tough matchup for Hunter in Chris Kaman.

We were the 4 seed, the highest to have to play the 1st round...meaning we got the 13th seed dead last Chippewas.  And it wasn't even close the whole game.  It hurt bad.

But...As mentioned, they did have Chris Kaman.  And that CMU team came back the following year to win the MAC regular season, conference tournament, and 1 NCAA tourney game.

Hall of Fame: My count through 2012 is 256. Includes all sports. Don't know the bball breakdown.

Honored Jerseys (hanging in Convo):  5:  Frank Baumholtz, Jim Snyder, Walter Luckett, Dave Jamerson, Gary Trent

Retired Jersey: Frankie Baumholtz

We didn't have much of a bench on those teams either. I loved McVickers but we wasn't worth anything. Still the only team to beat Kent from 99-02 in the tournament.

00-01 season was the most disappointing for me.  We actually had a decent guards that could handle the ball in Ford and Jones, and Jon Sanderson was very underrated, imo.
