Did anyone catch Nick taunting the Toledo bench but I believe specifically Kowalczyk after the Ndour block and outlet to Stevie for the layup to go up 10 with about 3 minutes to go in the first half? Nick was pointing at him and smiling/laughing and made the "T" sign with his hands suggesting he needed to take a timeout. Immediately after the basket, I thought I saw coach screaming in the direction of Nick. Not sure if Nick was near him while Stevie laid it in and said something or what.

The behavior seemed so out of character for Nick that I figured something had to provoke it. Did anyone else catch this or have any additional info?

Speaking of Nick, did anyone notice if DaddyPops was in attendance today?  I know he's been at several games recently.

I did see it and saw it often.  Kind of wondered what started it and if it was real (but I gathered they weren't buddy's talking smack, but real jawing).  Seemed out of character for Nick and also seemed strange that JC didn't put an end to it.  I would not let one of my players engage in that and neither would I allow an opponents coach participate in it.  Have no clue, but it seemed to be a "fringe" assistant--2 or 3 steps down the ladder.

Now that you mentioned it, Andrew, I do remember seeing an instance of it, I thought he was jokingly telling the refs to call a technical...

Kowalczyk has a rep so this doesn't surprise me.

If was directed at Jordan Mincy .  I talked to a UT Assistant coach post game who was surprised remarking that they never thought nick ever engaged in those things.  He asked if I had ever seen that with anyone else.  He egged them on to get a to early then stayed with with it through the end of the game even after the horn taking time to walk back by the bench before he retreated to the hand shake line.  Not sure what was said to get him going but he was not backing down.  Uncommon behavior.  Especially  ind light of the fact that we have to go north for the return

Sneaky trash-talking is the best.

Thanks to you and Square for the info. I was just hoping he had been there because this was such a good game. Sounds like he'll watch the rerun or his own DVR, which will give him some of the atmosphere but not exactly like being part of the excitement in real time.

I watched the first half on DVR last night, and boy the production was kind of lame. The crowd noise still seemed kind of muted and of course, as always, the main camera is up WAY too high.

It's part of the game. If you're out there trying to be respectful while the game is going on and not getting fully emotioNally invested....then I'm not sure you should be on the court.

It's not part of the game although I enjoyed watching the exchange.  Any coach worth his or her salt will tell you when you start  playing the person vs. playing the game, more often than not you'll end up on the short end of the stick.

I noticed him chirping at the Toledo bench after the final buzzer. In fact, one of the videos uploaded on this forum shows him staring down someone.

Look about 33 seconds into this video.

This whole Kellogg thing is strange. Call me old fashioned, but I just don't like that type of stuff.

right before this play Kellogg flies out of bounds and lands on top of the coaches. As he gets up and is walking away somebody on the bench must have said something to him because his head snapped around and he yelled something back to them. This is the continuation of that conversation.

How could someone play with DJ Cooper and Jon Smith, and LIVE with Stevie Taylor, and not know how to talk trash?  If it motivates him to shoot the ball that well more consistently, I say keep talking.

I was always under the impression that there was no real need to trash talk; you let your game talk for you.  (This could also because I was a 190 lb. offensive lineman and knew better than to run my mouth.)

If a player out there trash talking and recieves a technical, that means he gets a personal (one closer to fouling out), the team gets one (putting the other team closer to free throws,) and hisopponents get two free throws and the ball, a potential five point swing because a player couldn't keep his mouth shut.  As a side bonus, the zebras are probably keeping a close eye on him the rest of the game.

Maybe I'm out of touch with reality, but I don't think that there is a coach out there who thinks that exchange is worth it.  I know it happens across the board, but I'm in the camp that believes that if you're doing good, there's no need to and if you're doing bad you have no right to.

LOL it's pretty obvious a lot of you have never been close to the action. The guys talk and a lot of the times you cannot tell because they do it so well with out eye contact even continuing to run plays and execute while jabbering. Fine with me as long as it doesnt get the refs mad. And honestly they are the ones that matter and JC.

I actually like when the camera is up that high. It's not great for television, but it adds something to the broadcast because you can see the entire floor and plays develop. It reminds me of Oklahoma State's Gallagher-Iba arena before they started moving the cameras closer to the floor. I remember watching games on TV for them and you could almost see the entire cylinder of the rim they were up so high.

It could also just be me... my DVR tv is not high-def, so it's not ideal.
