I would like to mention that I am concerned that our 2 new guards, starters, are not performing up to what is needed.
Both Baker & Hunter are not shooting the ball at the needed %. They are below 40%.
If we are going to improve, with this team, these 2 starters need to score at a higher %.

It hasn't been pretty...that is for sure. Others have said it and not sure if Boals will do it...but once AJ gets his stamina back...would love to see him in the starting lineup and have Baker come off the bench. Maybe Devon could be like the "Microwave" Vinnie Johnson. But something tells me Boals will give Baker every opportunity to shoot out of his slump. He did the same with Brod last year, but it didn't work.

I feel like Boals let Brod try to shoot out of it because our next best options were playing 3 guards under 6'1" (Sears, Schmock, Brown) or play Sam Towns or Odelodun. And I think he tried enough of those options to know they weren't much better.

As it has been said on other threads, if AJ Brown is anywhere close to as advertised as a 6'4" athlete that can defend and score he has to get a good chunk of Baker's minutes when fully healthy and ready to go if the shooting woes continue. He at least will get plenty of opportunities to prove he has it.

I also hope AJ Brown gets more minutes and it makes sense, at this point, those minutes could be taken from Baker. I feel like Miles has proven he needs starter minutes and Hunter has been playing well outside of the shooting issues.

I said it on another thread and I'll say it again, AJ Brown just "looks different." The energy and athleticism with his size and physicality for his age looks different than most MAC freshmen. He's a player who had offers (per 247 Sports) from Penn St, Alabama, and Clemson. It scares me that if he doesn't get minutes and PT, he could bolt and we get to watch him blossom somewhere else. I hope we get to see the best of AJ Brown while he's here.

Great point and something we all fear from the moment he signed. You can't keep highly regarded guys like this on the bench only playing 7-12 minutes per game...not with the portal out there. Obviously he was hurt for six weeks and that set him back. This is a big month ahead for Boals in regards to what he does with AJ's minutes leading into MAC play.

I agree with this observation. I think the sky is the limit with AJ Brown. I'm very impressed with what I've seen with his limited minutes. I suspect that by conference time, he'll be playing a lot more.

Hunter at least has racked up 7 assists in each of the past two games to somewhat offset the shooting woes. I was really excited about the Baker add, but I agree that he’s shooting his way out of the starting lineup. I think we’ll all appreciate him more as a fellow experienced scoring punch off the bench with BRod.

Hunter is a solid ball handler and quarterback with the ball. We knew going in from his time at Old Dominion that he wasn't going to be a sharp shooter. I also like that we have him 2 years (3 if he takes the Covid year) to get integrated with the system

I've mentioned elsewhere but from day one I have struggled to get excited about Baker. A 1 year rental that doesn't have the best shooting stats in a year with an influx of shooting guard options with Brown & Roderick in their senior year and all the freshmen. He seems like a good kid that works hard and is a good teammate but I just kinda wish we passed and pocketed that scholarship.

What about the defense? Should they allow a lower %?
