If you heard Russ's discussion with Bean Willis you can't help but be excited for this season. If you haven't heard it you need to get on the school site and listen to it. Bean sounds like he's grown up a lot since Texas Tech and man does he get me jacked up for the season. He talked about the love and the family he has with the Bobcats and I can't help but hope that he turns into a Bassett or a Walt. I think he has that impact material about him. Just listen, you'll see what I mean.

It IS one of the best interviews I've ever heard with a Bobcat athlete.

I know what you're saying, but if we are talking about maturity, let's not hope he is a Bassett type.

agreed...we don't need a Bassett type kid from a maturity standpoint.  It was obvious in retrospect that he never learned from previous mistakes and kept on making them in Athens.  Hopefully, Bean is not just talking a good game, but living it as well.

As far as what he does on court, well, I've never seen him play or practice so I have no idea what his impact will be...

Love the comment about if there is a mistake made players take responsibility, "my bad."  Everyone working together.

As a coach I had was fond of saying, no fingers, one hand.

+1 . . . and I found it very interesting that he said the most influential person since he's been in Athens is "Mark, the spiritual guy."  I know Mark and he and his wife are behind the AIA House that was started a few years ago for Christian Athletes.  I wonder if that's where Bean is living.

Mark and (wife) Judy are great. If not sure who they are - just look for the couple holding up the flag/banner at every game - home - and A LOT of away games!

My favorite part of the interview with Bean Willis was his references to Mark Stickel.  For four years now now, Mark has been a consistent, behind the scenes presence in the basketball program.  He's there to be supportive of those student athletes in the basketball program who are interested.

To clarify a previous post in this thread:  Mark and Mindy Heflin are the Directors of AIA on campus.  They are full time staff and have been involved with AIA for many years.  The Heflins are behind the AIA house and Mark Heflin is the chaplain for the football team.

It would be tough to listen to that and not immediately be a Bean Willis fan.

Thanks, Jeff.  I believe that I got my Marks mixed up.  I didn't know about the other Mark, so when Bean referred to the "Mark, the spiritual guy" I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Normally, I'm dismissive of those, "I've changed! I've learned so much!" interviews. But Bean came off as quite sincere. Here's hoping he's not as good a media actor as Armon Bassett.
