Season is on in Canada. 3rd year league getting off the ground. Made the trip up NOrth to see the season opener. Played NBA rules instead of FIBA and full 48 minutes. Stadiums are huge compared to the Euro venues and the talent is pretty good. Unlimited US players so they are pretty deep.

41 game season. Windsor was in final 4 losing in 5th game of playoffs and off to a 2=0 start beating 2 time Champion London in the opener.

I was not expecting much and was really surprised at the level of play in this league. They are really pretty good. Anyone wanting to go to see a game be sure to hit Tommmy on twitter or facebook so he can get you on the ticket list.

Thanks, borna. Since Tommy is in Windsor, this is really a doable trip. I'm going to check out the date for Ohio's game at Oakland and see if Windsor has a home game around the same time. Would be great to see both games.

they are at home the next day on the 8th at 2 pm Jeff. Hit him up, I am sure he would be happy to put your name on a ticket. On the road by 430 and you are home by 10.

Will have to see about making it to a game. Windsor is a short trip for me. Growing up on Lake Erie outside of Toledo, we could always get Windsor TV stations.

No clue... I did not ask. The living quarters are decent. They do not have use of a team car but do not have to drive very far. I suppose he will have to watch for overzealous parking guys who are specifically looking for "that white piece of shit" hoping to ticket it.........Meals and per diems are similar from what I saw but he and his agent do the contract thing.

League looks like they are devoted to putting out a good product. ....Ballard from Miami, Vanzant from Butler, Thomas from IU, and a few of the guys we saw at EKU are there. I have not looked at the rosters but the talent seems pretty good and they are attracting some guys back from Europe.

I should say that form what I saw and heard the officiating is much better than I saw in Europe and the Coaches know the game from a much better perspective and experience/background than what I saw over there. I saw a big difference in substitution patterns and situational coaching than I had across the pond. Things we take for granted and understand the FIBA coaches were still struggling with while the American athletes just came out of time outs rolling their eyes.

I guess there was a major shake up in the officials ranks after the season due to some of the FIBA type back room antics seeping into the NBL. They told me the teams and owners are not going to tolerate the officials making deals, blatantly throwing games and interjecting bias into the game as they try to grow the league. They felt that had been present and was one of the major ways to lose fans before the league gets off the ground.

What's the best way to handle getting a passport to cross the river to Windsor?

I see Chris Commons is on the Express roster. I believe that he was a teammate of Jeremy Fears at SC-Aiken.
