Just looking for some info here from those with more knowledge than me. Were we ever close to getting him? I was doing some scouring around on here and I can't seem to find anything. Not sure if the page was lost due to the infamous data loss. I know we offered and Groce recruited him hard and he visited. Was he just too big and good for us or were we just in a bad position because we already had DJ?

If I remember correctly he had committed to Penn St. first, then backed out.  I know we recruited him pretty hard, but I dont think we were ever really that close to getting him.

He definitely visited here, which I would argue would be reason enough to say we were in the running.

I would have to think with Groce's ties to the Columbus area that he would have been on him rather tightly. And if he thought enough to visit here, who knows. I'm just trying to imagine a 4-guard lineup of DJ, Walt, Trey and Nick. Holy cow.

That UC message board thread is interesting to see all the guys they have claimed to be in the running for: Danny Manning, LaSalle Thompson, OJ Mayo, Bill Walker, etc.

They would have shared it and shared the court just as Louisville did with Siva and Russ Smith this past year.

Kind of like the Scarabs did.  Whoever caught the inbounds pass was the point guard on that possession.  15 state track championships.   First one across half court let it fly.  Man was that fun basketball.

I realize there's other reasons a recruit would pick Michigan over Ohio but I've got to imagine a freshman PG looking at sharing time with a junior that leads the team in minutes, points, assists and steals would probably want to go somewhere else where he could be The Man from day 1 instead. I'm ok with having DJ the last 2 years instead of DJ/3.
