I've already mentioned this in the football thread, but why shouldn't we also push for something like this with basketball...

Try and arrange a home-and-home with all three D1 service academies in the next 10 years...

Why doesn't the Marine Corps have an athletics program?

The Marines fall under the Navy Department. and so they go to the Naval Academy. Naval Academy cadets have the option of selecting the Marine option while they are there.

The Marines had a football team at Quantico that played some college teams until the '70s.

Personally, I don't think the benefit of playing the AFA in basketball is worth the travel costs, but I'd be on board with playing in West Point and Annapolis.

I know the football team played at West Point back in the 90s, and Army plays a ton of MAC teams annually now-a-days. We should make this happen. West Point's the prettiest college football venue in America.

In basketball, games against Air Force would be good for our RPI normally.

The same can't usually be said for Navy and Army.  Navy has had some good teams at times over the years, but Army has been really, really down for a long time.  Bob Knight coached some good teams there back in the 60s.  Navy has been down in recent years.

Forgot to note that the first game under the TOS regime was at Navy.  I made the trip to Annapolis and met SBH there.  It was a fun trip, and Annapolis and the campus are beautiful and inspiring.

True. There are plenty of games we could couple an Army game with though that would help our RPI. Iona and Siena both traditionally have solid programs and aren't bad drives from West Point, and Wagner and LIU Brooklyn have also been solid of late. And there's always St. John's, Rutgers, and Fordham too.

I am all for playing the service academies, but I do not see huge advantages to scheduling them like I do in football. I am all for playing them, but I would rather play them in football than hoops.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I agree. I live in Maryland so personally I wouldn't mind seeing Navy on the schedule but I don't think it really does that much for us.

I'd be more interested in someone putting together a list of universities whose Athletic Director or high ranking member in their athletic department is a graduate of OUr sports marketing department (or have ties back to Ohio).  And let's approach them with a "do something for Ohio" offer - Greg Ianni at Michigan St. is a prime example.
