Does District 14 only cover Athens County or something?

Bruce Weber at K-State and no JG?

The voters are not only in Athens County.  I think the write up says they are actually the HEAD COACHES of all teams in that particular District.

I'm just the bearer of the news, don't blame me!

I looked up the district breakout because I was curious as to who he was up against. Districts are pretty much conferences, so District 14 is made up of the 12 MAC schools.

I think District 14 basically covers the MAC and some other schools.  The players named to the District team were basically the all-MAC first team.

Coach Christian received this honor by a vote of his coaching peers.  Methinks they are more knowledgeable about this stuff than the naysayers on this board.

You read over Jim's record and how he is regarded by his peers...I just hafta laugh at some of the arguments used by his critics on here.

Amen.

Or, maybe the coaches who voted all are horrible and didn't make any adjustments in their voting?

Maybe, maybe not. I remember at the end of the last baseball season Brandon Phillips lost out to Darwin Barney of Chicago as being the best defensive second baseman. Their peers voted. Pretty everybody and their mother who have seen both play knows that Phillips is the better defensive second baseman. The scuttle on the proverbial street was that many of Brandon Phillips' peers don't care for him, and think he is a bit of hot dog. So, Jeff, there certainly can be a lot of factors that his "peers" may consider when voicing their opinion - such that perhaps a better coach does not get the nod because that coach is less popular.

Word is that Tony LaRussa was not a popular manager among his peers, and they did not bestow awards on him. But as much as I dislike LaRussa, he was one hell of a manager. Regardless what his peers felt.

Incidentally, the coaches (you know, JG's peers) named O.U. as a top twenty-five program at the end of last year, a result that Ted apparently does not agree with because the R.P.I. and Sagarins tell him it ain't true. Maybe you and he need to talk.

Good on Coach Christian!

One question though: Why did all the MAC coaches overwhelmingly vote for Dambrot for MAC COY, and then vote  this way? A consolation or reaction from the Zips embarrassing tourny showing?

Contrary to popular belief, I was the only voter for this award. No other coaches were involved in the voting process.

I've seen crazier things happen.

That was a media award.

MAC coaches didn't vote for Dambrot; the media did.

I've told several people before that the opposing coach in press conferences frequently said many good things about what a tough spot Christian came into, how he had to adjust his typical system to fit the players he had  and had to try to get his player's respect and they all said what a good job he did with that. This just verifies that MAC coaches truly thought he did an outstanding job.

And here I thought it was because the players did so well last year, that they just were not hungry enough this year.

I wonder how much this speaks to what other coaches think of Dambrot...

If you're not careful, you're going to grind that axe to its hilt.

My mother wanted to remind you that Darwin Barney matched the longest single-season errorless streak in MLB last season.

How some District 14 coaches filled in the blank when voting for Coach of the Year:

Keith Dambrot: "ME! ME! ME!....ME!"

Rob Senderoff: "Let me make a few calls and I'll get back to you."

Reggie Witherspoon: "SERIOUSLY!?!"

John Cooper: "Everyone just wants to know what Charlie thinks, right?"

Louis Orr: "I love lamp."

Tod Kowalczyk: "IF, and this is purely hypothetical, my players could read, I'd totally win this award."

Jim Christian: "I'm voting for myself, but please note that I'm grimacing begrudgingly and menacingly as I do it. But, granted, that's kind of my go-to look for all situations."

Honestly, I at first had him marking down God as Coach of the Year. But it's Passover/Easter weekend. So no God jokes from me. I've seen what happened to Yul Brenner in The Ten Commandments.
