I'm starting to lean more towards the "We need to leave the MAC" camp.

Sadly, I am not surprised by this news.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Apparently BG doesn't have the money. At least that's what they're saying. They didn't seem to try too hard to raise the money to let him go.

When I found out they planned to make their new building so small, that is when I was finally ready to consider a move out of the MAC.  The fact they can't afford to fire mediocrity just validates it for me.  MVC schools would have canned him awhile ago.

if I dropped $10m to put my name on a new basketball arena I would be flipping out if this was how it was being used.

Someone started a thread about how since BG obviously doesnt care about basketball, which team should everyone follow next season with OU listed among some others. This is such a joke. How are they going to recruit with a lame duck coach on the last year of his deal? Either fire him now or extend him, you cant just leave it as is. He must be living off the glow of that one NIT 1st round exit and MAC regular season title that I didnt even remember until I just looked it up.

They could pretend they're trying and trade for Billy Taylor who might also keep his job for no good reason, although tonight's hot choking action may reverse the feel good moments of the first round win.

Ball State didn't play in the first round.

Just be thankful Ohio isn't like that.  I can think of three coaches (Taylor, Orr, Witherspoon) that would have been fired if they worked here and possibly a fourth (Hawkins).

He has only been there for 2 years right? He was MAC COTY too I think (not deserving, but still). I dont know if Hawkins would of been fired either, he is kind of like O'Shea was record wise

We just experienced that on the women's side and what a year this one was and now the coach has been fired.

Sort of difficult for the president at BG to OK buying out Orr's contact the same week she announced the firing of 12 percent of her faculty members - 100 professors.  Budgetary issues dire at BG...and according to ABJ today, getting shaky at Akron.

THat's a great point about recruiting when everyone knows that you're essentially a lame duck.

What is worse:  Miami's apathy, the depression of Ay Ziggy Zoomba, or EMU's attendance?

I would say he's definitely on the hot seat after the moves he pulled after last season.  Not sure how you recruit after showing that you have one foot out the door.

You don't even have to read the posts on BG's board to see how upset they are. Just look at the thread names.

My favorite sentences from Orr's Wiki:

"In his first year in the Big East Conference, Orr went 12–18, but was noted for playing Duke very close in the Maui Invitational."

BG AD to take job at Xavier.  New AD could reexamine coaching position.  Likely still gives him one more year.
