Coming up on the 16th (Sunday) per Coach Boals’ post first practice interview. Like last year, I doubt we will learn too much, but we can hope…

Why can we never seem to get these games on the schedule?

UC is gonna be tough this season. Returning 4 starters + two 1,000 point transfers.

The scrimmage against a D1 team has to be played out of public view per NCAA rules.

Well Ted, it was nice while it lasted. Thanks for posting!

I did watch it a few times before it was pulled and it was nice to see Brod hit a couple, and by the reaction of the bench on the last snippet, I would guess we “won” the scrimmage…

Pardon my ignorance but who is the left-handed guard who pumped in a few good-looking shots from outside?

That is our next great point guard: Jaylin Hunter. Transfer from Old Dominion. He will be a good one. Love the pick and roll with DW3 to start the highlights.

Top 5 takeaways from that video:
1. Defense. Of course it's highlights but our guys looked to be swarming on defense while hustling all over the court. Maybe depth will help Boals play more trapping and full court.
2. The moves and athleticism of DeVon Baker and Jaylin Hunter are not to be underestimated. Baker hit a couple of "wow" shots. I am sure he will make sure crazy at times with his shot selection but dude knows how to score.
3. Wiznitzer little runner. He will be a fantastic backup to DW3.
4. B-Rod hitting a 3 and also getting downcourt on a fastbreak looks good!
5. A.J. Clayton looking sharp from 3.

Nice recap.

Was AJ Brown on floor? I don’t have Superman eyes.

Not sure if we “won” the secret scrimmage, but feels like we played well against these guys. November can’t get here fast enough.

I couldn't make out A.J. Brown either. It looked like a starting lineup of: Hunter, Baker, Clayton, Wilson and Miles? Was it Miles on the early steal and layup? If so, I am ok with that starting lineup with AJ, Wiznitzer and BRod coming right off the bench.

That was Elmore on the steal.

Not sure I could make out AJ Brown, Miles, Olumide, or IJ on the floor. Looked like multiple guys in street clothes on bench. floor. If IJ is out, based on the video, it appears Aidan will spend lots of time as a 4/Clayton's backup.

From what I saw in the short video, Man we look very good on defense. Jaylin looking like the next great OU PG. BRod with his mojo back. Did notice IJ, Corna, Estis, Olumide, AJ Brown, Miles on bench but for all I know they could have played. Could not quite make out who was in street clothes.

Overall, I'm very excited for MAC basketball this year and keeping the Convo as loud as possible!!!

Snooping around UC boards, it appears we "won" the scrimmage. UC may have been experimenting with lineups more than we were. With us, it looked like there was more a first and second platoon with someone... maybe Ben or Elmore, acting as a swing guy. Pretty sure I count four scholarship guys (AJB, Miles, Olumide, IJ) plus either Corna or Estis on the bench. IJ and AJB have reportedly been dealing with some injuries though I don't see any presence of a walking boot anywhere. What's up with Miles and Olumide?

Boy, they are in borderline meltdown mode on the UC board over this. Just a scrimmage.

Seeing as how they got absolutely killed in the transfer portal last year, they should not have very high expectations.

from Chad Brendel, who is as good a UC insider as anyone:

"For a little clarification, I'm hearing UC was using it as an opening scrimmage to get as much from as many guys on tape as possible while Ohio played their main 7 guys pretty much the entirety. That goes a long way in why the outcome ended as it did with UC playing 12 guys equal minutes, including down the stretch when OU broke a tie score and got ahead by a couple scores with both Reed and Skillings on the floor. I also heard the plan was to play 3 segments, but when the 2nd segment ended with Ohio leading, they called off the 3rd segment claiming their guys were "too tired" to continue."

What no one on their board seems to know, at no fault of their own, was that it's clear to us from the video that we only dressed 9-10 guys and one of them was a walk-on. I can understand both sides, but regardless, doubtful we get to schedule any men's basketball activities with Cincinnati in the near future.

If OU can get 35-40 points from Hunter/Baker a night, we're gonna win a lot of games.

Factor in AJ and DW3 low...

I won't get ahead of myself, BUT....

Should be a fun year.

This does happen, you see it at the youth sports level. 2 teams line up an early season scrimmage, one shows up playing super loose and exploratory while the other is playing like its the super bowl. Usually it's the "underdog" looking for the confidence boost going harder.

Meh, we only had 9 guys available (We played them all) and Coach called it after 40 minutes . No need to push players when we are already missing people already. Seems pretty simple to me.
The UC board is complaining that leaked footage from the scrimmage made them look bad? They may want to talk to Tommy Schmock about the leaked video of him getting crossed over in last years scrimmage with UC.. I don’t remember anyone complaining on this board about it because, it’s just part of the game…

Yeah, I'm sure in total the shorter rotation probably helped us but some of what will likely be our better players were among those not dressed. I wouldn't worry too much about the results of a scrimmage that nobody saw no matter what but how is losing to Ohio when you don't know how much everyone played a reason for meltdown. We haven't been uncompetitive. We might have been favored to beat them most of last year but I'd think but not at the end of the season. Now, I imagine they would be a pretty big favorite at the start of this year and most future years in the Big XII but still....

So we only had 9 available but sounds like only 7 played decent minutes, who were the 2 that were left out?

If UC fans are so upset about how we handled things in the scrimmage maybe they should petition their AD and coach and insist they play us a real game to get their revenge; particularly in Athens where they could really prove their superiority. I’m sure Jeff and Julie would accommodate them. Ha. Ain’t happenin’.

I was listening to the Three Man Weave's podcast for their Big East preview just now. In their general news section they talked about two scrimmages that happened recently and wouldn't you know it, they both had something to do with Ohio... Looks like TCU smoked Alabama with Mr. Sears scoring 10 pts. Alabama even called a team members only meeting afterwards so, something is amiss.
Then, they talked about Ohio beating UC and that there was some friction on Twitter about lineups and calling the game early. Rightly so, they said to not read too much into these games. However, I did think it was good they mentioned us...
