Seriously.  Not a joke.

They dodged a major bullet tonight as Murray (who beat them a month ago) left their big brick-free-throw shooting center in the game in the last 20 or 30 seconds and he missed about 4 FT's in a row, allowing Belmont to get to overtime at which time they hit a buzzer beater at the end to escape.

Belmont used up all 9 lives to get past TSU (who also beat them a month ago) and Murray in the OVC tourney... I think it's time for their luck to run out.  The Bobcats should be stoked if they get a shot at them in the big dance at a neutral location after that pathetic showing in the bracket-buster game.

Um...we barely beat bottom of the MAC Miami (of Ohio) at home.  I imagine they could watch that game and say very similar things.  From here on out, about anyone we face would end our season if we shoot sub-20% in a half.  I'm not saying we could'nt beat them...but reading a lot in to rivalry or conference tournament games may not be best barometer.

Eltkn Alexander had nice article on D.J. yesterday in which D.J. basically explains the difficulty of winning the conference tournaments because your opponents know you inside and out.  I think he reinforced how hard it is to judge a team as beatable because they had a close game or two in emotional conference games.

How would this ever happen? If we get in we're probably a 13 seed. Belmont will be around an 11 seed. I dont forsee an Ohio - Belmont Elite Eight matchup.

What about a 13 vs 12? We've seen that before.

This thread made me laugh because we're about to have two incredibly tough matchups to even be able to make the NCAA Tournament and then would need to win a first round tourney game (and so would Belmont) to even draw Belmont in a potential 12/13 matchup. And who knows if we'd even have those seeds to matchup, Belmont could easily be a notch or two higher than that.

I'd love another shot at anyone who would mean that we made the Big Dance, but for this week I'm pretty focused on getting through the MAC.

I would like another shot as well.  The BB was the perfect storm for the Bobcats and while Belmont would always be an extremely tough matchup for us I think D.J. and company would play them a lot tougher.   We spanked Akron by 25 points last year but that wasn't a true indication of the difference in the level of talent on both teams.  But I wouldn't necessarily put to much emphasis on their almost losing to Murray State.  Both are really good teams.

Lunardi has the MAC spot as a #13 against #4 Kansas State. I think this would be a pretty good draw.

I was wondering about that.  Having not had a chance to watch it on the live streaming yesterday, what is the story on this underachieving?  Is it more of "playing down to the level of the competition" or what?

I was at the win over Michigan last March and don't sense the same confidence in the team from the fans as last year when they fought off a number of elimination games to get to that point.

I don't think it was effort which is the case in many of our underachieving moments.  We just couldn't shoot worth a darn.  A lot of wide open misses.  That and we are always susceptible to teams that like to drive the ball as opposed to the teams that rely on good ball movement.

As for the fans' confidence, we are very vulnerable right now unless Nick gets his mojo back.  When he's not hitting we become a completely different offense. Teams are starting to double team DJ up high and play tight on Walt and we have no answer.  And when I say double I don't mean hedge like we do up top. They are sticking two guys on him.

Speaking of Nick and his shooting woes, I'm loving the two PG sets we are running with Stevie and D.J. on the court.  I hope we see more of it.

I doubt Belmont gets a seed in line to play against us. They've never won a tournament game, which may scare off the committee even though they are very good this year.

I wouldn't want to play them again. Basketball is such a game of matchups... and we just don't match up well against them IMHO.

Speaking of teams from the Nashville area... middle had a record of like 27-4 and lost to FIU tonight in the SunBelt semi-finals.  FIU looked like a high school team compared to middle.  Now with 27 wins, they will probably get snubbed again just like last year (25 reg. season wins)

"Mid-majors" not named Butler and Gonzaga are much more safe winning their way in. No?

Middle Tennessee may still get the bid. Their RPI is 28, They are 28-5 with no terrible losses.  They beat two SEC teams including the second place Ole Miss Rebels.  I think they are in but it would not shock me if they were shafted.

two words - DE FENSE  We just don't defend as well ... consistently... like we did last year.  that gave us a shot against any team on any floor. The best teams on our schedule this year seem to have shredded us. Making Michigan and North Carolina and Louisville really uncomfortable for long stretches is not something I can imagine from this year's version. But I hope we can step it up and do it.

DCF--You should anticipate that many here will castigate you for your expression here.  You may find what you state to be the product of reasoned observation.  Many others will vehemently disagree.
