Bracketbuster pairings usually come out in early February. Last year was the first time I can remember that ESPN announced the pairings and the TV schedule at the same time. I did some number crunching based on the rankings at realtimerpi.com and the list of home and away teams found at the bracketbuster website. Right now, the Bobcats are way on the outside looking in for a TV matchup. That will happen when your best wins are Richmond and Western Michigan. If the pairings were released today, we would likely be looking at a game at Fairfield or Vermont. A visit to UIC isn't too far out of the question - that would be nice for DJ in his senior year.

Let's keep winning and hope some people ahead of us stumble.

I'm also going to root for an unlikely series of events arising that causes the need for this matchup to be played at a neutral site.

I've seen crazier things happen.

But we also recall previous years (cough, cough) when the matchup's weren't given simply based on the RPI's.  I'd like to hope that last year's Sweet 16 run comes into play.  Maybe ESPN puts a team that people have seen in the NCAA Tournament into a TV game if the numbers are close enough.

Both are three hour drives for me, so I vote for those.

Joe Lunardi from ESPN did his S-curve for the top 100 teams for Bracketology today and Bryant was in the top 100, we weren't!!!  They make the games and you see where we stand with one of their guru's.

If we could win out through the end of the month (@Miami, @Kent and EMU), we would be 16-5 with an RPI probably approaching or near top 100. If that happens, I think it will likely be some sort of TV game.

Then we don't have much time to move up in the RPI. I don't know if I necessarily care if the game is on TV or not. The measuring stick for this season is how this program performs in MAC play. If we win the MAC tournament and in the NCAA's great and I'd rather have that as an outcome than a regular season MAC title but contending for a regular season MAC title is crucial for making success an every year thing.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

That's an interesting take on the measuring stick of "success". Personally, I would take an NCAA appearance over the regular season title every day. IMO, that is the ultimate goal of the season - and the only opportunity you have to compete for a true national championship.

If someone gave me the option of finishing last in the MAC, but that we would win the tournament and go to the NCAA - I would take that over the MAC regular season crown and an NIT bid.

Thoughts?

I don't know about finishing last ....I could not sta here and listen to the pissing and moaning that took place the entire year......but I would gladly dance and advance every year over a string of MAC titles and underperforming tourney teams. Sorry but that that is the way the thing has moved. I used to get excited for everygame but I now see the season as a prelude to the tourney. THere is so much going on with the journey to the tourney that has to come to gether. Kids got to learn the system and become consistent withtheir execution and mental prep. They have to learn to win. ....the journey is the thing. THe tourney is a result of what you took away from the mistakes and success you had in the season and how well you learned to play to youir strengths and cover your weakness'

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Winter comes and asks how you spent your summer.....

The game loves and rewards those who love and reward the game

That projects Ohio to lose one of the next two games. Winning both surely would move the Bobcats up quite a bit.

Also, it would make sense for ESPN to use it's BPI rating as more a baseline, considering the company claims it is a better indicator of team's abilities. This is beneficial to Ohio. The Bobcats are 85th in that ranking and the sixth-ranked road team in those rankings (also within just a couple of spots of two other teams). With two more wins, the Bobcats could set up for a good TV game.

What factor is the possibility that OHIO can produce a big, enthusiatic home Convo crowd for TV?

or are we for sure on the road?

Definitely a road game. All of that is predetermined and rotates every year.

Most of the scenarios where I've seen this come up involve weather related disasters that make it impossible for a game to be played at a scheduled location.

I was joking though.. Im not actively rooting for a snowstorm to hit.  Hopefully this week will give me more hope we can win on the road.

I've seen crazier things happen.

We can win on the road.  Consider who those road losses have been against.

I don't think the problem is losing on the road. It's how we played.  If we had been cold from the floor it would have been one thing but it seemed more of an effort thing to me.  I remember at least three times players backing away from guys that had beaten their man and allowed them an easy bucket.  I didn't post anything at the time but I remember being worried at the time that there might be some dissension in the locker room.

Loses to UMass, Oklahoma, Memphis and Robert Morris with a win over WMU we almost let get away.

I think we're capable of winning on the road, but so far we have looked like a completely different team on the road.

I think I got too unoptimistic in this thread, so I'd like to point out we had a nice road win today.

Let's suppose for a moment that OUr guys win Saturday.  With that in mind, how far up do they move?  Enough to get a Murray State or Valpo match up? Those are games I'd prefer to see, and I'd rather not see a Utah St match up.

This forecast is projecting what our RPI will be, and it is assuming we win on Saturday. If anything our RPI could get worse form what this says.

Honestly, with Ohio's name recognition based on their tourney performance last year combined with a win on Saturday, I wouldn't be surprised if we get a much better opponent than what our RPI would indicate.

Someone on the Zips board made a point that ESPN likes tv matchups that can get good ratings and thinks Ohio will get a much better matchup than what we actually deserve.
