That night WAS the undisputed top sports night of my life. I only say 'was' because a certain Friday night in Nashville last year was pretty damn amazing too. My favorite memory of that evening was when the Buffalo students were chanting "This is our house". After the game, my buddy and I went back to the hotel quick to change and turned plain white t-shirts into Fears and Williams 'jerseys'. We were then at the Boneyard and a group of Beef students walked in. I started mocking them. I asked the group if they remembered chanting "This is our house." They looked so depressed, but I had consumed plenty of liquid courage at that point, so I continued the verbal abuse. Two of them walked up to me, and the one guy stuck his hand out and said, "Hell of a game man. Those two freshman you have are great. I wish you guys the best in the tourney." I felt like a huge ass, so I used my per diem money and bought them beers. Chatted for a while. Good guys. From that day forward I tried to keep my mocking insults to myself . . . . . . until we beat Akron last year. It all came back that night.

My boys were 2 & 4 yrs. old and we left several hours early for that game. We had been car shopping the week before to get a new van. South of New Philly the serpentine belt broke and we were stranded. I talked a state trooper into taking me to the auto parts store to get the parts I needed to fix it. I had never replaced a belt on a vehicle and had no idea what I was doing. Somehow, I ended up fixing it, but we did not get to the Q until almost halftime. We were down by 19 when we got there, my wife was pissed I decided to go even though we were going to miss most of the game, and my kids were not happy about driving past Chuck-E-Cheese in North Canton as had been promised earlier in the trip. I ordered a new van from my cell phone 5 minutes after we were back on the road, the kids got their make up trip to Chuck-E-Cheese and I was able to witness one of my favorite all-time Bobcat moments. I have a great picture of my oldest son celebrating in the lobby after the game. I'll never forget What is....Buffalo Sucks.
From that day forward I tried to keep my mocking insults to myself . . .
