Not trying to stir up rumor or controversy here but I am curious as to how the team is handling Christian? I guess it might be a bit early to tell as official fall practice hasn't begun, but do they players seem to be buying in to him? Anyone with any thoughts or ideas?

I don't remember who told me, but someone said they like him.

Everybody seems upbeat and on board. Summmer and fall workouts and newly allowed practice sessions were received well by everyone I have talked to . Seems to be a pretty smooth transition from my little corner of the world. Defense seems to be the emphasis in most conversations.

GOt to meet the new guys last weekend, meshing well and very nice guys.

Thanks for the update Borna. I hadn't heard much, but I figured since we didn't lose any active roster guys other than Jacobs, that they had been accepting and there werent many major issues. At the same time, I wondered if that was more just becuase many of the guys were seniors and it wouldn't make a lot of sense to transfer and sit out, just for one year. Glad to hear things are going well and the new guys are meshing well. Excited for another great year of Bobcat basketball!!!

Have always liked Brennan's stuff on ESPN.com. Good article.

What? We can't get a mention of Mrs. Christian being an Ohio alum?

Reading this thread reminded me that I picked up my first Bobcat Souvenir Pepsi of the season last week at Peden.  Lo and behold, whose face do I see when i pick up the cup but John Groce.

Shouldn't his buy-out have included replacing all the cups with his face on them?  Very unsettling to me that we would be passing those out by the hundreds.  If it was a tribute (some day) I could see it but it wasn't - just a collection of athletic dept stuff in pictures. I certainly hope those don't appear in the Convo during Christian's first season.

if I had to make one tiny nitpick about JC its that in the limited number of quotes I've seen from him he really seems to be driving home the point that last was special and unique and expectations need to be realistic etc. Its a fine line between setting realistic expectations and being a Debbie Downer, he's not at that point yet and I understand why he's saying what he's saying, but I would like just a touch of swagger/confidence to peek through too. its a small nit, overall I'm excited to have him on board.

Agreed on the swagger, just a small hint would do.  I am trying to remain somewhat cautious about this year, but it is extremely difficult to do.  That has never really been my strong suit anyway...

I expect us to be very good in the regular season, and I won't be happy with JC if we are not.  However, come tourney time it is a one game for everything mindset.  This is good as an underdog, but when you actually expect to be good it means one off game and our dreams are done.  I won't fault JC if things don't go as I hope they do in the postseason IF we have a great regular season.  This also assumes he doesn't make any clearly dumb decisions, which I do not believe he will.

One thing... OUr team definitely has swagger.  They absolutely believe they can play with ANYONE the nation and they will let you know it.

Agree. We want to get to the dance via the season's performance and not rely on the MAC tourney crapshoot.

I think this is why Mr. Christian has been playing it so low key.

All the preseason hype, and the results from last year, can easily lead to overconfidence.

Confidence is good.  Overconfidence leads to poor preparation and thinking you can "turn it on" when you want to.

Remember the Miami Heat's first season with the traitor on the roster?  They thought the championship was a no-brainer.

Or, if you go back about 5 years, we had that pre-season "Ohio is the team to beat", and we all know how well that season turned out.

I think Coach Christian is providing sound guidance.

GO  BOBCATS!

I second this.

Talking to everyone from DJ to DMac I get the same vibe. THose guys are engaged and confident but surprisingly realistic and humble. I would not say swagger so much as an inner confidence that comes with having been there and wanting more. Stay Hungry boys.
