Back in the days when Harold "the Big Mack" was Ohio AD, I heard him on more than one occasion opine that a good fall football season (too bad he never presided over one) juiced the fan base for basketball and would lead to increases in basketball attendance.  If true, given the success of the Bobcat gridiron squad this year and the Sweet 16 finish last year, we should have 'em hanging off the rafters come mid-November.

Perhaps, but not sure how ol' Mack would be any sort of authority on this! Regardless, I hope we see some increase in basketball attendance. Time will tell!!

I think that it's going to be impossible to get a seat this season. Especially in the OZone.

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

"Big Mac" - now that was a while ago - and the proposition seems pretty obvious/forgone conclusion to me. Especially given there are what, at least 5K new Frosh on campus every year? And if their 1st OHIO sports experiences are positive/fun (Fall/FBall), then why would they not be ready for/excited for another w/BBall?

BTW - a fellow BBall season ticket holder who spoke w/the ticket office today said season ticket sales are WAY, WAY up! Hope the students get on board as well!

I would not tend to quote any Ohio AD who had a large Duke Blue Devils banner on the wall of his office.

it is TOO bad Carl,  that he never experienced that feeling,  nor did the students during his tenure.

That said the Convo should be rocking. We are in a great time for OHIO in football and basketball. Minor sports are holding their own and should also be seeing a benefit from the notariety in their recruiting. Baseball will be interesting this year to follow and see what happens. Looking forward to seeing the vball team at BSU this weekend and supporting our girls on the road if I decide to stay home and not come to Homecoming (depends on the weather and if Mama Kawi wants to get her 2 wheels rolling.) this weekend.

It is debatable whether football losing would have an effect (not affect) on the attendance following a Sweet run last spring. I think it surely helps but may be mutually independant given the affinity the public has for the characters that make up this team. They are good guys and are readily accessible to the public. The fact that they are good guys as opposed to thugs and malcontents promotes an affinity that draws individuals and families in...that may be my biggest fear inthe future and the defining portion of Groce's career.....he engendered the need for recruiting high caliber individuals who would get it done on the court as well as off.  I think attendance goes up when you are winning and even moreso when you like the guys who are behind those wins.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Mac obviously wasn't basing his opinion on any experience.

At OHIO, football never won with Mac but that didn't affect basketball attendance.

And when he played at Duke, despite their unsuccessful football program, somehow basketball seemed to manage.
