I spent at least a minute looking at the players trying to figure out what the deal was. I still don't know who that is with their back to the camera.

If there was any doubts about whether going to Illinois was the right move, this should put them to rest. The top 50 high school players were invited to Las Vegas. What a tremendous recruiting opportunity.

I kinda picture this as being how I would feel if one of my ex-girlfriends from years ago ended up being famous or something. Kinda like "You know I'm cool cuz I was with that" mixed with "If I wasn't good enough then, I'm definitely not good enough now" with a splash of "Why on earth did I not do everything possible to keep her around"

If 2012 Team USA was full strength as expected (Howard, Wade, Rose and either Bosh/Aldridge), I would put my money on the current squad over 1992.

They keep saying "well the Dream Team had 11 HOFers," but if this current Team USA was full strength, I see 10 virtual locks (barring something crazy) for the Hall of Fame and a strong possibility of 12.

All hypothetical I know, but the 1992 team had no challengers whatsoever because the International game was not close to competing at that time. This talk about them just steamrolling the new Dream Team I have to imagine would be inaccurate. It'd be a great best of 7 series though.

Were Magic, Bird and Jordan on that '92 team. Maybe Dream, too? If those guys were at full strength...

By 'Jordan' I mean Jordan. He tended to be a good basketball player. By 'good' I mean transcendent.

So, we can send our best pros and whip 'em. Who cares. Send our college players.

The only chance the 2012 team would have is if they jumped out with a lead and were able to hold on for dear life.

If the 1992 team got anywhere near a 3 possession lead at any point, the game would be as good as over. The new guys would crumble, and Jordan et. al. knew how to keep their foot on the gas the entire contest - something most pros in today's game could really learn a thing or two about.

The Dream Team would win. You had Jordan in his prime and even if you had Howard in there, they would just overwhelm the 2012 team inside. The Dream Team was just impossibly deep. If you start Ewing, you have Robinson backing him up. If you start Barkley, you have Malone backing him up. Mullin was at his apex in 1992. You can make a case that Rose and Paul could do a lot of damage against Magic and Stockton, but if we're pretending injured guys are on this team then I get to replace Stockton with Isiah Thomas (for those of you too young to know, Thomas was screwed out of his rightful spot). And could you imagine if they didn't make the huge mistake of taking Laettner over Shaq?

Yes, those three were on the team. One was retired, one had a bad back and one was at his peak. if by Dream you meant Hakeem, then no. He was not an USA citizen.

The international game is too good at this point to just send college players. Heck, even the stacked USA team we have now is not guaranteed to win the gold. Spain and Argentina would have their way with a college all-star team, and some of the other teams would have a good shot to beat them as well. It's not 1950 anymore...pros go to the Olympics.

I gotta say that I don't care for NBA basketball and consequently I don't care about Olympics basketball anymore. For me it is just not any fun to watch.

As far as the pros being in the Olympics I would say that it makes sense to have the best athletes participating from any given country so, why not?

For me the medal count is interesting but not significant as anything more than just a number. Winning an event, regardless of nationality, is an amazing feat. Being in the Olympics is also an amazing feat. I understand that what I get to watch on TV is brought to us by Americans for Americans but I, for one, would enjoy a wider view of the many sports than the focus on the popular stories.

Like the constant "OH-IO" chant heard when more than 2 people in scarlet and gray get together ,the constant "USA, USA" cheer during the Olympics gets a little old for me. (Yes I was born in Ohio, USA)

Yeah, that Miracle on Ice when our amateurs beat the best pros in the world--that wasn't exciting. But such as whipping Angola by 43 and Spain by 17 with our hoop pros, that's emotional, heart-grabbing tension.

This saddens me that one of our own is so bereft of life force that he finds his firmament in potshots at me. I'm stable and able to distinguish fact from opinion; so I'm not dimmed by the above. And, I'm happy to provide a way for you to think that you feel better.

I do hope that at some point you feel better about yourself and, so, able to contribute without gratuitous knocks on others.

The 2008 USA Olympic basketball team did win every game by at least 11 points. The 2004 team went 5-3 overall and struggled to earn the bronze medal. It no longer is a guarantee that the USA will strongly romp.
