The elder Nunn said the relationship with first-year Illinois coach John Groce while he was coaching at Ohio was vital to the Illini now recruiting his son.

"They didn't have a chance of recruiting Ken at Ohio," Melvin said. "We loved the coaching staff at Ohio, but they weren't a bigger school. Since they moved onto a bigger school, a bigger spotlight, that's how we got interested in Illinois now more than when Coach [Bruce] Weber was there. We have a good relationship with Coach Groce."

(And Groce gets his pic in the shadow box as well)

+1 bro, Sweet 16 run = you can suck it

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

Yeah, because small schools don't EVER have a shot at the big boys.  Good lord.

+1  If the son is a chip off the old block, this kid's got an ego problem, IMHO.

I think you guys are overreacting here. Players want to play at big programs. It's not a jab at us, we're just not a big program.

True.

If dem Fighting Illini can beat the likes of Wisky and OSU then it was probably a wise choice.

Time will tell....it may come down though to a choice of a winning program at Ohio or a big program that gets their arse kicked.....some may be comin this way.

Came to us from IU, MIke is a probably the best thing he took with him. If you ask me that is the most important key to the success since he came to OHIO in 2009.  We made a fundamental turn and quantum leap in conditioning and strength when Mike came. I am sure it took Groce a long time to sell that one to UI but it is a very smart move.

I fear that OHIO will be in real trouble in the short and long term if they do not fill that position with someone who is equally as good or better. To put someone else in the postion Groce created or do away with it would be a huge mistake IMHO.

never argue with idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
