It's official. This coming year, you will be able to purchase beer and wine in the Rohr Room and the tower. Just opened the mail and it was in the Bobcat Club mailing.

1. It should be stadium wide. Why close the door to a piece of the revenue stream? Don't give me the speech about under-age drinking either. The University and its catering/concessions partner should have the ability to verify ID's for adults over the age of 21. Also, nothing biblical please. It's too early this Monday.

2. How long until OCF complains about there being no valet to un-cork his wine bottles for him and the Mrs? I'm setting the o/u at Week 2 of the football season when Alan complains that they aren't serving his brand of grape juice. I can already see the new thread - "No '92 Stag's Leap Petite Syrah?" Go ahead and insert your pretzel joke here, but I don't see myself partaking except on the rare occasion. The 90 minute drive back up 33 is a pretty good deterrent for me.

3. Interesting how this coincides with the Groce/Illinois rumors? I'm sure this (along with a Groce retention package) have been in the works a long time, but the timing is no doubt interesting.

Again, put on the big boy pants and sell the devil water across the whole stadium. If someone in the Family Pack wants to buy a $7 Bud Light, I feel confident their money spends as well as someone's in the Tower.

If it were stadium wide just think of the extra money it could bring in. I know 3 or 4 years ago when we played at Kent, I convinced a bunch of friends who were living in NE Ohio at the time to meet up for the game. We had a pyramid of empties by the end ($$$). I think it may have convinced a few of the non-alums to come along as well (I believe we had 12 alums and about 8 people not affiliated with either school).

This is a good idea. It should be stadium wide. I would support not having vendors on the student section side of Peden as a compromise. I do not have Tower Club seats for football simply because I do not want to sit up there. I guess my crew and i will have to hydrate pregame. Good thing we start tailgating 6-7 hours before kickoff. I'll get through the game just fine without beer.

I wonder if we will have to drink the beer in the Rohr Room only, or if we can take it to our seat. This is a nice option for our fans. The revenue stream will help the department, too.

I feel bad that I don't know this, given my title and all - But it was always my Grandpa footing the bill for the "Roar Room" when he introduced me to OU Basketball growing up (shout out and big thanks to John Jones!).

How much do Rohr Room season tickets cost? And access to the room is a perk of purchasing season tickets in the surrounding sections, right?

edit: Side-note....I feel like my title has become all-the-more apt for next season!

You could also do it how Kent does and have it for sale in a specific area. They don't have taps - at least at last check they don't - at every stand, they only have them in one of those temporary tap trailer deals. Like a food truck but for beer. Now, if the department is using its brain, it'll see that the real exterior benefit of having an indoor practice facility is that it instantly becomes a MASSIVE department-controlled indoor tailgate opportunity. They should sell beer in that thing for whoever wants it. Gigantic moneymaking opportunity for game-day parties, the IPF.

Random thought guys...I haven't been able to attend a football game over the couple years. I know the 110 was moved into the student section, but what occupies the space behind the endzone where the band used to be? Imagine dropping a beer garden in that space where it was regulated and also had some sort of tailgate available (burgers, dogs, etc). That would be such an incredibly huge draw. You could even create premium endzone seating.

How about building out the rarely used sky box in the Convo and converting an area where anyone 21+ can go to grab a beverage, a burger, and a high quality soft pretzel while offering a unique view of the game?

Of course I know it will never happen, but if you want to dramatically increase money coming into athletics, selling beer and wine arena/stadium wide or in a specialized area would seriously help.

Certainly a good revenue stream. The "partial" stadium approach appears fairly common - this is a few years old, but...

Any school that WANTS to do that can quite easily, they just choose not to. All you do is ID EVERYONE, even if they look like they're going to die tomorrow, and limit it to 2 beers per valid ID per transaction.

This news makes me extremely glad that I chose to begin my Bobcat Club contributions at the Captain's club level. My liver is already quivering with excitement . . . Rohr Room access? Yes please. And I'll gladly pay $7 for a beverage or two if it's helping out athletics.

This is a great idea for new revenue streams. I have been attending Xavier games for the past three years and they serve beer, wine, and liquor as well for mixed drinks and the sheep line up at the trough. The only problem you'll have is that one idiot who likes to yell from the stands how bad the refs, coaches, players, etc. are, but don't we get that without the alcohol too?

Great move by Schaus and the athletic department. As Love said, time to put on the big boy pants.

It also is full during pre-game and half time with folks just going in and back out getting their popcorn and soft drink. So the question is - Where are the 100 or so folks going to stand to drink their Bud light?????? If it has to stay in the Rohr Room better start thinking about knocking down a wall and expanding.

West Virginia started selling beer at football games last year and made a ton of money, if they can handle it with the type of crowd they draw...why shouldn't Ohio?

This is a revenue stream that really should not be ignored any longer. If the OU Administration is worried about the "party school" reputation, selling beer at games isn't going to add to that. It's a long standing reputation that isn't going away. And here's a question: How many people on this board went out and bought at least ONE adult beverage while at a game in Cleveland a few weeks back?

Without getting too deep into sociology class, count me in - of course - in the "you have to sell it to everyone" crowd. Only selling to the suits sends the subtle message that they're the ones who can be trusted and need to be rewarded. If we've learned anything over the last several years, THAT model (put your full faith in those with the most money and treat them as the better people) has died a painful and rightful death. Besides, who would you rather let get drunk at a game - a student who can walk home or a Tower Club member who has to drive home? Honest question.

I know nothing of the terms. But shouldn't we be able to sell easy about 5000 pops at $7 per with the University (Athletics) getting about $5 per? (Assumes expanded beyond Rohr Room.) Shouldn't this be worth 150-200k a year. Sorta free cash.

Gots to do it.

8k per game gets us near 250k new revs.
