His mother died yesterday morning.

That's really sad news. His mother was his life.

For those who are not familiar with his story (or for those like me that needed a refresher on how big Delvar's accomplishments are):

You know, I got so fired up with the ESPN/Katz ranking thread, then I read this old ESPN article on Delvar and it puts everything back in perspective.

Still in Athens and would be pleased to read about the messages of support and care exhibited here.

Agreed.  What would be nice would be the establishment of a Delvar Barrett Humanitarian Scholarship program here at OU.  Perhaps this message board could organize and start it.  I'm sure the foundation would love to help us set it up.  Any ideas on how this would work?

And if not a scholarship program (which would be great), at least an athletic department award named after Delvar for the student-athlete that exhibits the most dedication and preserverance in and outside of sports.

He lives near Nelsonville.

Prayers go out to Delvar and this family.  My heart goes out to him.  He certainly has a heart of gold.  Such dedication really speaks volumes about his character and his capacity to love.  Brings out the sentimental slob in me.

After refreshing my memory with that article that I remember reading when it was "hot off the press," I wondered if he is working as an accountant, which the article says was his goal.  In Nelsonville, I suppose he might be working for the headquarters of the Rocky Boots, Hocking College, or some other business.  Does anyone know for sure where he is working?  I actually didn't clearly remember he was still living in the area, though I vaguely recall someone posting about that fact a few years ago.

Sad to hear this, he's in my prayers.  He is truly a great Bobcat!

According to facebook, he's a Service Representative at the Social Security Administration in Nelsonville.

Thanks for the information, Ryan.  I wonder if that job has anything to do with accounting.  Sounds to me like it doesn't, but with the way government jobs are named, I'm not quite sure.  The job title implies to me that he's counseling people on SS issues.

Delvar can be forever proud of his dedication to his family, his academic accomplishments and his comportment, at a young age and with multiple burdens.  My condolences go out to him.  He made me proud to share his Bobcat pedigree.

Really sorry to log-on and scroll through the threads, only to find this.  Very sad news.

My condolences go out Delvar and his family during this trying time.
