This man's not happy to hear this news.  Can you identify him?

Howard the Duck > Maj. Gen. Oliver Otis Howard...

I don't endorse the furry lifestyle, but when the Bobkitten is involved things can change mighty quickly...

I didn't realize that Howard the Duck was the mascot of Howard University.

Actually, I'm impressed that you could identify the abolitionist general for whom Howard University is named.  He was the director of the Freedmen's Bureau during Reconstruction.  A great man, often referred to as the "Christian General."

I love the play-by-play style article. It's like an in-game blog of sorts.

When studying Civil War generals, I prefer the one who was the leader of the Louisiana State Seminary Of Learning and Military Academy.  When I taught in the south, he was the most hated of that era.  Maybe the drinking, cigar smoking, and love of fire has something to do with it.  My favorite of all American generals.

Yes, one of my favorites, too, the little boy from Lancaster, Ohio.  Do you know that he's now recognized as the first president of LSU, which the institution you cite evolved out of?  In fact, they are thinking of naming a building after him.  They also moved his picture in the administrative building out of the basement into a more prominent place.  Progress is being made.  Gen. Howard was a wing commander under Cump on the March to the Sea.  For more information on the many misconceptions of Sherman's march, which your students could have benefited by reading, please click here for an article by an A&M history professor: Myths of Sherman's March."

Sorry folks for the "thread drift" -- the error is completely mine, but when it comes to the Late Rebellion, I sometimes can't help myself.
