=>(If Groce is gone), to help get ya'll started, here is list of Miami coaching candidates with bios:

http://www.miamihawktalk.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=5...

I would assume each school would be looking at many of the same people (Boals, Dickerson, Kelsey, etc.).  No use you all reinventing the wheel coming up with names and bios.

Enjoy.

Yes ye trusty ole Athens "rutters"...dumpster diving and curb tossing since 1804. The yard sales just went up 1000 percent after spring move out day. My first opportunity to meet these fine lads was me moving my belongs out of my house and making the mistake of sitting my fine leather lazy boy recliner beside the U Haul truck instead of securely in it. Before I could finish a glass of ice cold hocking rivers finest tap water I heard a large  truck pull up into my yard. Needless to say I bet the seed of some of these pissed off gentlemen are here today..but with internet service.

That's a hell of a list.  Dane Fife intrigues me only in that he and his family(Dad Dan and brother Dugan) were hometown heros in little town in Mich where we lived.  I think he needs another year under Izzo however.  IF and when Groce leaves, would love to find a "Solich type" who has experienced the bright lights, still has the fire in the belly, and would be happy to find stability, support and a long term home in Athens.

because D Antoni coaches the defense that has got us here.....I love his teams and enjoyed the heck out of Phoenix which is the offense we run......but the man would have to bring in an asst who coaches the other end of the floor.

For some reason, not the craziest thing I've heard. Actually, somewhat lucid. Marshall Grad no less. I'm not thinking about successors until we need one though.

If Weber came here do you think he would wear a Kelly Green Suit?

That would require him to care about defense and know something about it.

For the record, the Rutter family, whose name has been bowdlerized to the generic "rutter", have indeed been in Athens County since the early 1800's, and their decendants still live in the hollows around Trimble Township yet today.  I went to school with a number of them, and above all, they are nice people who simply prefer a less stressful way of life.

Had not heard from my Xavier folks that Pat Kelsey was looking to get back into coaching, but I'm sure happy for him. That guy was a helluva coach in the time I got to see him at Xavier. If he did get back into coaching, I wouldn't be surprised if he went back there as an assistant first.

Putting the cart WAY before the horse here...but say Groce does leave and takes an assistant with him. What would we think about Boals bringing in Jermaine Henderson as an assistant (assuming he doesn't get the gig at Miami)?

So much talk about Henderson. I mean, it's so crystal clear that let those kids eat the sandwiches on the bus WAY WAY WAY too early. No discipline. Won't work.

Does Boals really need to take the Groce route and start with a head coaching job in the MAC?  He's already Matta's top assistant and probably already makes as much as he would get paid in the MAC.  Could he just wait it out and make his first job something a little bigger than Ohio or Miami (maybe Atlantic 10 or low Big East type position)?

Very good question. If he wasn't an alum and didn't have the talent he would have here next year, I'd agree with you. But I think with those two factors, it may make sense to start here. If Groce gets $2m/year from Illinois, you have to think that Boals would take notice.

Do I take the really easy jab here and simply state that maybe Jermaine was sad he had to share the sandwiches for a change?

Gary Waters at Cleveland State would be a top choice. He is a great defensive coach with MAC ties. He built the Kent State program. At Ohio he would be able to recruit better players than at Cleveland State. Ohio is a bigger job than CSU.

=>Boals is not Matta's top assistant.  Dave Dickerson is the #1 assistant and has the title "associate head coach."

Add to that conversation that when John came to Athens he also took a pay cut as Matta's Associate Head Coach to become OUr head coach.  As in another thread, money isn't everything.
