Just when things were looking up, OU needs to pay their coaches more. How come the Dambrot stays at AKron?

Dambrot didn't win on National TV.  Didn't take UNC to the Brink of elimination and ultimately expose UNC's flaws.  If we had lost to Akron in the Finals of the MAC we might be talking about Dambrot leaving to UoI on a one page thread and have a 15 page thread on OU in tonight's NIT Championship Game.  This is fate type of stuff.  Just like O$U may win it all finally in Basketball and the Coach Boals will come back home to Coach a top notch OU team to next years F4.  And no the recruits in most cases will not leave to go to UoI most likely.  If UoI fans think JG is bellow them they definitely think OUr players are.

DON"T GET ME WRONG,  OUr PLAYERS ARE GREAT BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD AS A TEAM CAN PLAY WITH ANYONE!

Just trying to think what a UoI fan would feel if he brought OU players with him.

Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.  - John Wooden

I'd be lying if I said the Groce departure means nothing to me or the program. On the other hand I'm also not overly concerned about what happens next to OUr b-ball program.  Groce took us to another level and I see no reason why we can't stay there.

We of course lose 4 great players next year.....the key is to keep the 2 we already have in the bag to replace them and to add 2 more.

I'm carrying the Jeff Boals banner for reasons like:

(1)  He might consider this a job to stay at for a while.  The admins will do their best to keep him here ie in regards to salary and other perks. He's an alum who like all of us hopefully bleeds green.

(2)  He's a great recruiter and has those Big 10 ties that could bring in players like Bassett and Offutt who have helped us reach these current heights.

(3) We've been lacking in the post area....maybe not so much in personnel.....just the need for someone like Boals to coach them up.

(4) He may be able to keep someone from the current staff to help the transition form Groce to Boals.

(5)  He's an all around good guy....and I think he'll bring the intensity we need as well.

One is a big game coach, the other isn't.   One is young, energetic and wins over anyone that meets him. The other is older, bitter and was fired for dropping racial epithets in the locker room.

For some reason I suspect Dambrot is not well thought of through the coaching ranks. He is always scheduling weak competition for the OOC games, and as we all know he has had an issue in his past.
He will end his coaching carrier @ Akron unless his performance suffers or some other incident cuts his tenure short.
I don't know, or have I heard, anyone talk highly of him.

Likely the recruits stay with OHIO.  This should be our new coach's top priority!  Next year Illinois is full, if Groce keeeps the one commit and no transfers.  Not certain how our future would fit in to the talent base at Illinois right now.  You do not ususally take your mid-major recruits with you when you move up to a major conference.

Agree with the thought of him not being highly thought of in the coaching ranks, but their non-conference schedule was just as good or even better than ours this past season.

It has been better as of late, but for the longest time they basically just tried to see how many D2/3 schools they could schedule in a season.

Point taken. But we scheduled soft too when Groce first got here.

Danny Nee took a recruit with him to Lincoln -- a kid from Lancaster. Don't think JG will do this.

Even Dambrot knows there's no comparison between Groce and himself. Which is why he said after the title game that Groce is a young  guy and will get another job and he's an old guy and won't get another job. (well, there's probably a couple of other reasons too).

I have to think that's Groce's A1 recruiting priority is winning over Chicago.  There's a couple solid 2013/2014 players he might be able to land as the hot new guy as Illinois.  There's some kid named "Parker" who is supposed to be pretty good.

Jabari Parker is the #1 player in the nation in the class of 2013. It would be a total coup if Groce landed him. He'll probably end up at Kentucky or UNC.

THanks you itrpd

I dunno what the big deal is with those idiots in Chicago and on the Illini board...... and the Simeon coach is being a douche. JOhn was all over his players last year. We had Nunn and Taylor firmly in our sites.

I sat in the front row with JG at Flying to the Hoop when Simoeon was on the floor. For that coach to deny that he does not even know JG is just posturing as I know they have talked.

The level of recruit here and at the BTetwelve is different and the system will mandate a little tweak in who he goes after. Not saying that our guys could not play at that level but each has a little wrinkle in their game that landed them here and not htere in the first place. Length, quickness, height.....all have aknock on them....he got players for the system and will do the same in order to compete in the conference he is in....he has to go up against the guys he recruited at TOSU....they are bigger, thicker, faster and better skilled coming out of HS. He did not recruit Greg Oden or Deshawn Thomas to OHIO, he also did not get top 100's to X. He wil recruit at the level  of what he needsand is able to get at the level he is.....and he willbeat all the rest in the conference with his classes and their rankings.....that is what he does.

I think he can land Jabari with no problem. In fact, I would go on recrod saying I would be very surprised if he did not. I do not think any of OUr recruits fill that bill and I would hope that the next coach re recruits both to here on his first day. I think what we got coming in is good. As long as the system stays intact and we take advantage of the recruiting opportunities we have been afforded through this brand eleavation and incredible exposure we will be fine.

SUSTAIN!

I'll simply put it this way - I like John Groce's chance of landing Jabari Parker more than I liked Bruce Weber's.

I was sarcastric, bigtilly.  Also, I would bet HEAVILY that the two frontrunners for Jabari Parker are Duke and MSU. A big coup by Groce is the only thing that will keep him from one of those two, IMO.

Dambrot is Akron's Solich. He's been around the block, he's made his mistakes, he's been fired. No, was never a head man in the big time, but I don't think he has any desire to deal with the crap that goes on at big time programs. He wants to build a winner at Akron and retire semi-wealthy and be done.

Our recruits aren't going with Groce. I've been told they won't cut it in Champaign.
