I feel the same way about Ohio and Athens, too.  Love the guy.

Not to take anything away from the great video, but they couldn't even get the seeds right! It's CBS!

Yeah I just posted this in the game thread also.  You can tell he has a ton of pride for the university and community of Athens.  Gonna be tough to see him leave.

Let's not assume he's automatically gone, especially after this season.  You never know what plans a coach has for his career or what he wants to do at a certain university before he moves on.  Groce and his family obviously love Ohio University, Athens, and its community.  Why can't we enjoy the moment and hope he wants to build something great?

I raise your +1 and add 100.

BTW, can anyone post a direct link to the Groce interview?  All I get is the Ohio recap, followed by other recaps, followed by Coach K crying, Lehigh Coach jumping up and down (well sort of), followed by the Norfolk State coaching whooping it up, but no Groce.

"We've been working hard all year. It's not an upset. We think we're good."  -- DJ Cooper in the interview.

Damn. That's the attitude to have.

Thanks very much, Ryan.  That did it.  Very good interview both with the Coach and with DJ.  Coach doesn't sound like a man ready to pick up his bags any time soon, and you've got to love DJ's attitude: "We don't look at this as an upset.   We think we're a good team." (rough, but close paraphrase).  GO OHIO!

Edit: This deserves to be bump. All Bobcat fans should view these interviews -- special player, special coach.

I think the picture below explains what the major basis of his decision on whether he stays or moves on will be .  More money in a larger city/school may not be what is as important in the next few years.  I hope Coach Groce stays a little longer, but I will respect his decision either way!

Both John Groce and Shaka Smart seem to have a higher level of passion for their school and community than many other coaches.

Lets enjoy the moment and worry about this stuff later!

I agree, it doesn't appear to be a given that Coach Groce is leaving; he genuinely seems to like Ohio and Athens.  I mean, who wouldn't?

Anyway, dear President McDavis and AD Schaus, for all that is good and holy, please please please give Coach Groce and his staff a raise!!

Let's remember this team all returns intact next year.
We would be obvious favorites to win the conference.
In addition there is a chance that we may, I say may, receive some pre-season top 25 votes.
These factors could also play a big role in coaches decision to stay.
It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds over these next several weeks.

A chance that we may receive top 25 votes?  That's gotta be an understatement.

this video has been in the back of my mind since I first saw it and there's another video that's almost identical from after the USF win, he's asked the same question, gives the same answer, and chokes up in the same spot. I've been trying to figure out why Groce gets emotional when talking about Athens.

my gut tells me that its because he knows he's was moving on to something bigger, but not necessarily better and feels bad about leaving us in the lurch.

face it, Illini is a mess. Look at their President and AD situation, then compare that to what Groce has now with McDavis and Schaus, there is no comparison. They have more fans, but we have a good number, and ours are better. And their fans are delusional, they think they are Duke and expect the same results. The only thing they have to offer that we cant match is a Brinks truck full of money which I guess is a good enough reason.

I know I should be more logical about the whole situation but this the emotional thread so I'm going to be emotional, eff this mess!

MY STATE. MY TEAM.
