We are up 4 DJ gets the steal and instead of running clock goes to the basket and gets stuffed. Tuff night for him but man run another 30 seconds and then get a score who knows. But that said I'll take killer instinct over play safe anytime

Walt misses a Foul Shot to put up up one with under a minute left.  No bigger play in game.

Guys, we were right the all night. We had a chance to win in the sweet 16 VS the 1 seed. Its all we ever wanted. I don't know about all of you, but I am so proud of our team.

Well obviously I think the missed free throw was the biggest play.  But Offutt kept us in this game so no reason to hang his head.

No way Walt can get one ounce of blame tonight. Yep, the free throw was big, but w/out him we get blown out of the water.

Loved Walt's contribution, but that play was a big one that killed us.

With you guys. The game isn't close without Walter. I hope he soon has peace of mind about the free throw. It was tough to see him end it on a bad note because he deserved a game-winner kind of moment.

you'll drive yourselves crazy wondering about what ifs. How many dunks did we miss? How many easy layups? There's not a guy in that locker room who isn't beating himslef up thinking about that one basket he could have made. Let's not dwell on the ifs and buts, let's remember how great they played in spite of those missed opportunities.

No doubt Walt had a great game. If it comes down to 1 of the 3? free throws we had, I'll take that. Wish we could have kept that intensity during OT though

Amen!  I can think of a half dozen blocks UNC had on shots within 2 feet of the basket that were just as big.   Without Walter we lose by 20 tonight.

What a terrific season.  Walt was amazing today.  We were the better team on the court.  It is a letdown.  I blame the zebras.

+1.

There were so many different plays that could have made a difference, from each player out there.

Can only congratulate the effort, it was there all night.

i think they left it all on the floor.  Generally we played harder and smarter, particularly on defense.  UNC cannot blame ALL their turnovers on their injured point guard.

On the other hand, they had more talent (please, this is not a knock on OUr guys!).  Generally, the more talented team wins these types of contests...but what a contest it was.  Certainly one of most memorable, on the biggest stage, since I became a fan over 40 years ago.

Thank you coach and thanks guys!

For me, the play of the game was when DJ was poked in the eye by Zeller and no foul was called.  They came down and popped a three while DJ was trying to get his eyesight back.  That turned the mo late in regulation.  If the foul had been called there, we'd be planning our Sunday watching parties.

As for plays that may have cost us the game, there are too many to count.  When you go into OT you have so many chances that could have won it in regulation that its just incongruous to point a finger at one individual.

I'm hoping that this team -- especially the coaching staff -- stays together for next season.  That can be huge.

I am with potstirred on this one.  In that situation up four, final minutes rushing the game to conclusion, you only go for the score if it is a gimme-sure thing.  Otherwise ,it is a horrible decision.  It does not change because it was Coop.  Coop has to be the smartest guy on the court., our field General  We could have been a up by six. or seven.  TNC immediately regained the momentum  or at least deflated ours.  We played amazingly tonight, but we played better the last two, three, four games.  3 for 20 shooting by Coop did us in.   Coop played great , especially the second half of the season and through the playoffs and to the Sweet Sixteen.  Not so much tonight,  However, he almost won it for us with his last second shot.   One more year Coop!.   And Offutt on the miss, my god he almost won that game single handedly for us.  Gentlemen next year we do it again.  Groce do not, I repeat do not abandon your juniors.  Stay loyal!!  Make it to the Big Dance at least three times in you OHIO career.

I thought it was odd that Cooper was hit in the face on the floor, watched the shot, and once he saw he missed, the theatrics were on full display.

IMO, there is a reason Groce was screaming at him to get back to the other side of the floor and not chewing on the official.

Coop got absolutely tomahawked in the head on that play.  I'm surprised he stayed on his feet.  Watch the replay.  it was after the shot that he got hit.

I guess I agree with you as well. The plays were equally big.  Except I believe there were two fouls on that play.  Zeller got him with his body. Iverson always got that foul called.  The foul was not called because it was UNC and late in the game.  Call the game the same way all game.  I guess the second foul was not called because the hand was on the ball.  But frankly I did not believe that the hand on the ball rule applied to hand on the eyeball.

I think this is very short sighted. He stole the ball at the top of the key with his momentum moving to the basket and it was him and the other guy. No shame in not going to the basket. The UNC guy just made a great play - that happens, people make great plays.

Hindsight is alwasy 20-20.

I saw that he was hit. It was just after the shot was completed and on the floor. Still should have been called.

I was just pointing out that he was hit, was seemingly unfazed and then reacted strongly a full couple of seconds later.

I'm going to pick out an odd play, because it didn't keep Ohio from getting all the way back in it, but there was a play midway through the game where Ohio was down four and Cooper found Smith under the basket for a seemingly wide open dunk. UNC recovered, blocked it and Ohio went back down by about 10 before coming back.

It just seemed that Ohio had UNC teetering on the point of full panic. They were without a leader on the floor and if Ohio had gotten a lead midway through the second half, I think the Bobcats could've built a little bit of a cushion like they did against South Florida.

All that said. All that coulda, woulda, shoulda, it was an incredible display of heart. This team is as mentally tough as any college basketball.

Disagree strongly.  He had to beat a player that was fully prepared for him.  Momentum moving to the basket -- you control your momentum and develop the floor with your players as a point guard.  Unless you know you have the decided advantage.  He did not.  He tried beating these guys one on one all night.  It was a good play not a great play by the UNC man.  He had proper position and a height advantage.  We had a four point lead.  Clock awareness is critical at that juncture.  This was not hindsight - I would tell him unless you have a clear path or a decided advantage which he did not have - you pull back work the clock and the floor.  This is what point guards do.  What happened was a momentum killer.  The flow of the game changed dramatically.  We hung in there becaus we had heart.  I am not blaming the loss on any one player. But I am not going to sugar coat  my opinion. The query was what was the most important play in the game.  That, in my view is the one, and as you can tell from the second post above, the equally big play is the one in which I believe there were two fouls on Coop by Zeller.
