Saw the postgame. You don't owe anyone an apology. Very proud you are a Bobcat. Final Four next year, Walt!

Dear Walter Offut,
I don't know you. I've never met you. But I've seen how hard you play in an Ohio uniform. And you played your ass off tonight. Want to avenge your missed FT? Come back next year with as much fire and effort you put into tonight and we'll be dancing again for a while in March.

Thank you,
OhioStunter

Seriously...Walt came up huge during the MAC tourney run and the NCAA tournament, and he stepped up big time tonight when our best player was struggling.  Without Walt's man sized effort tonight, we likely lose by 15-20.  He hit big shot after big shot to break up UNC runs and to keep us afloat.  Nothing to hang your head about.  Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way.

The key to next season is going to be developing offensive consistency.  Obviously the dramatic improvement on defense is what fueled us this year, but becoming more consistant on offense will take this team to an entirely different level.  We've seen at various points throughout the year what this team has the potential to be offensively.  When we push the ball off turnovers, swing the ball on the perimeter, penetrate and kick, make the extra pass, and take smart shots, we can play with (and beat) nearly anyone in the country.

As a team we need to improve on getting each other the best shot possible.  You saw the problems that Ivo gave UNC's bigs when he drove and used his passing ability to set up his teammates.  Those weren't some scrub bigs he was playing against either.  That was the best front line in the country and one that had three 1st round picks in the NBA draft.  DJ's at his best when he penetrates and dumps off an interior pass to a big or kicks out to Kellogg or another shooter on the perimeter.  I could go on and on, but I'm pretty sure everyone knows that potential this team has offensively.

Anyway, great year Walt, and we could have got this far without you.  Glad you're a Bobcat and not a Buckeye.

His defense on Barnes tonight was incredible. Forced him into tough shots, going 1-12 in the first half. And of course, on the last play of regulation he makes up for the missed free throw by stifling Barnes yet again.

Kudos to you Walter, no apology necessary.

What Mike said.

I watched the game with a couple of OSU fans and the 2 most common utterances (is that a word) out of their mouths were...."how did we let him get away"....and "Walter is a beast".

I'm proud to be a Bobcat this mornin....it hurts since we were so close.....but things  with football and b-ball are great and hopefully will stay that way.

Dear Walter, Coach Groce, The Entire Team, Support Staff, Administration and the Fans who traveled to the NCAA Games:

Thank you for the tremendous performance during all three games and specifically last night as we overcame a difficult start.

I have lived in Virginia since 1988 after growing up in Columbus / Worthington and had grown tired of people being confused by OUr school and another school. After the past week, everybody knows who Ohio University is.

I received many messages last night and the first one was from a close friend and UNC fan who simple stated, “Ohio earned my respect”.

The most meaningful comment came from my 15 year old daughter who is an aspiring pole vaulter. She said “I really like the Bobcats because they play with spunk and never give up”. As a father, the most important thing to me is that my daughter “gives it her all” in all facets of life her life including academics, sports and giving something back to the community. The performance by the Bobcats was a wonderful example of how hard work and playing as a team can lead to success and the development of friendships.

While I was a bit sad for a few seconds after the game, I can truly say I have never been so excited to be a graduate of Ohio University. This is not only based on the performance on the court, but the leadership of Coach Groce and the passion he displays not only for his players but also the university and the Athens community!

Mr. Coleman is spot on.

I don't endorse the furry lifestyle, but when the Bobkitten is involved things can change mighty quickly...

Dear Walt ... no apologies necessary. Without you, we would never have gotten to where we did this season. Next season promises to be just as special -- already looking forward to it.

I'm so proud of OUr team and coaches.

Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.
John Wooden

You have nothing for which to apologize.  Thanks for being a Bobcat and for you contribution to making this team the best.

It's clear that Walt can slash and take it to the hoop -- right or left side and blow by his guy and hit the little layup off the glass. But his last few games he's shown a lot more from 3 point land. He looks smooth shooting the 3 and if he keeps at it off season it would be incredible if he started to consistently hit a percentage near what Nick is hitting (40ish%). That would add even more to the team next year with DJ being able to penetrate and kick it back out for 3's on a consistent basis. Add in Offutt's leadership and you have a guy who may be the most well rounded player we have as his defense is intense. He knows and plays both ends.

+1 to all of this. Walt, you played an incredible game at the end of an incredible season. So you missed a shot, it happens (says a guy who'd have a tough time hitting the backboard in his driveway, unguarded...with a ladder.). You played with heart and hustle and have been A BEAST all season, on both sides of the ball. Since the start of the MAC tournament you've been ON FIRE.

No need to apologize, we're all damned glad to have you, damned proud that you wear the hunter green and white (and sometimes black) proudly. I'm normally more of a football guy than basketball (MARGINALLY, i did listen to/watch every BB game this season, and only missed like 2 last year), but I literally CAN'T WAIT to see next years schedule come out. I'm starting to look for a new job and you can bet I'm going to think long and hard before turning down any opportunity within easy driving distance of Athens. That roundhouse on richland avenue will be ROCKING next season.

Walter was the reason Ohio was in the game yesterday. One helluva game, and there wasn't one alum in our section who wasn't incredibly proud of the entire team yesterday.

That is all.

If Walter continues to shoot the ball and slash to the basket like he has watch out NBA..seriously his defense is what will earn him a paycheck everything else is icing on the cake! I cannot wait til Coach gets some big man help..its obvious he should be looking for a possible big name and body transfer to add with the recent one,

Walter,

In addition to providing basketball thrills during the last two weeks, do you know what else you and your teammates and coaches have done?  Persuade numerous prospective students and their parents to seriously check out Ohio!

The play Offutt made to get to the free throw line is what I'm going to remember from that game, not the free throw. He willed that ball in the basket. It was an incredible drive to the basket.

When we did not get the win I felt the worst for Walter because he played so damn hard to get it.

Amen...

Offut didn't cost us the game, hell, we wouldn't have been in the game without him!

Sure, great to have made the FT but he didn't...it happens. I'm impressed with Offut's maturity to recognize the miss but certainly no need to apologize...like I said, without Offut we're not in the Sweet 16 and we're certainly not in the game against NC.

Thanks Walter and the rest of the team for an AMAZING run!!! So proud to be a Bobcat, St. Louis was great...so proud to be there.

GO BOBCATS!!!

A true competitor would be upset with himself about missing the free throw. I would of too. Hopefully sooner than later you will see that it was just one play in the entire game and it didn't cost you the game. Have a short term memory and start focusing on tomorrow and not yesterday. We are all extremely proud of all of you! Great year, great run and great effort, that is all we can ask for!
