I drove Through A Tornado Warning today, w/pull off at Lane Ave. exit RIGHT next to the Shott/OSU arena, w/black wall clouds alll around us - to be where I was with a fellow OHIO grad's house - to watch the game - just like we did two years ago Vs Tenn.

I am a bit PERTURBED - by the FAIR WEATHER FANS I have been getting/have seen posts one here about their OHIO PRIDE (?). throwing down the gauntlet, I like it.

I say this as someone who has lived in Buffalo NY for 6 of the 7 years since I made the mistake of filing for graduation from our fair university. Since then, I've gone to every OHIO Event in Buffalo (football and Men's BB), worn my green on every occassion, and trashtalked my (UB-grad school) classmates at every opportunity.

EDIT: any true bobcat's support is always welcome, ESPECIALLY if it comes with a recanting of past divided-loyalties.

Your preaching to the choir here, RS.  I agree with your assessment of some of the good-time Charlie fans.  Most of us on here have been with the 'Cats through thick and thin . . . and that's saying a lot.

With all due respect to the regulars here and the "diehard" fans like us, I always think the "fair-weather fans" argument is flawed.

If Ohio wins like it has, I expect more and more fans to support OU. If they didn't, we'd all wonder where those fans were and why we didn't get more on the bandwagon. Now that they have, I don't think it is fair to criticize them. Yes, many have come out of the woodwork, but it's the Sweet 16, we'd expect them too. Heck, some might even become more dedicated fans.

Where I agree with you/what I dislike is when "newcomer" fans act like they've been supporting the team all along, when they've barely checked the scores or could name players beyond Cooper and Kellogg...

...I say our Bobcat Bandwagon should welcome anyone who wants to take the ride with us.

While I agree that the long-suffering fans should be admired and will enjoy this kind of run more than anyone else, it is in Ohio's best interest to have as many "fans" as possible.

If you want the facilities and coaching salaries to compete at the highest levels, you need every fan you can get.

This "hipster" attitude toward athletics is a good way to guarantee a loser.

OMFG you should send your story to the Athletic Department, after they hear about your undying dedication, there's absolutely no way they don't name the Convo after you next year!

Seriously though, complaining about our new fair-weather fans is like complaining about having too many marshmellows in your lucky charms. Whether they will be lifers or fans for the next five days, I welcome them with open arms.

Win and they will come.

I met folks last night in the bars with OZone shirts that said they have been to every game for 2, 3 or 4 years. Funny. I been to every game in the previous 4 years and most this year. Had never met those ...and none of them had a clue who I was.... but they will be on board next game and next year and that is how you grow the product.

I like it. This has been coming for years. The weekend Groce came here I said I liked it, this is what y'all wanted. Don't hate on the newcomers. Embravce them and know that you have done the hard work along the way. You are the choir. Your temple is full ......sing like hell.

Just because some of us don't post here regularly doesn't mean they are a fair weather fan.  I follow the Bobcats very very closely and it is insulting to be considered fair weathered because I decided to start posting again.  I now remember why I stopped posting after the major reset last time.

Stay with us Hawaii. We don't have that shaka hand signal icon here, but if we did, I'd use it now.

Thanks Borna,
I have been reading but not posting.  I did have a watch party.  It consisted of me and a UD alum.  I enjoyed singing Stand Up and Cheer at Charley's.  Hopefully with all of this recent success, I can host a Bobcat Bash at the Maui Invitational.  Maybe we can continue holding onto this lightning in a bottle and I can buy some Hurricanes for some fellow attackers.

Cool your Jets, bro!!!

Let's remember something here. Every person that I know who attended Ohio University, loved their time there. I loved every minute of it. While, I am a huge supporter of the athletic program - my greatest memories in school had nothing to do with the success of our athletic programs. Well, there were a few, but ...

Maybe you remember your first Halloween, when you did something dumb at Palmer Fest or when threw up in the middle of Court Street during the homecoming parade. Or maybe it was something you learned or the great people you met.

This team and other athletic programs, give the alum, who might not be "diehards," a reminder of how great Ohio University is, was and will forever be.

Please don't hate on alumni because you have so much pride being an OU "diehard" fan. Don't forget where you came from, I know this attitude wouldn't be appreciated or tolerated when I was school. Sounds like something an OSU grad would say.

However, if you are referring to C-BUS people taking pity on us and feeling better about themselves by rooting for OU - then, by all means, please hate away.

Agreed. I think this thread would be best buried. I think someone got carried away (when they started the thread) with some over exuberance.

I belive most if not all missed my original post "point". I was referring specifically to OHIO alumni who have since their 'ex pat" status - living with/around/working w/other D1 schools alumni, who MORE than often express Enthusiasm for the New Local D1 school (as opposed to OHIO) - i.e. to be "in with the local crowd, "cool", or just plain a "weenie", and not ALWAYS make it CLEAR and UNDENIABLE that OHIO is THEIR ABSOLUTE FIRST AND UNDYING UNIVERSITY LOYALTY. Well, then they have become like the Vichy French - weak and quivering opportunists............

And Yes - I Also mean ALL on here who try and play the "I lIKE/AM LOYAL TO TWO SCHOOLS Baloney. C'MON' - Make a play! Indecision is easy, and usually results in No Win, or a turnover...........
