I have taken the highlights from the Bobcat fans vs Jeremy Guy. Read this top to bottom. I only posted messages from public twitter accounts, so hopefully no one takes offense to seeing their handle up here.

(For non twitter folk out there, the first name is the person talking, the name after the @ symbol is who they are talking to/about)

JGuyMAC:  Just got off BracketBusters call. Let's just say the MAC will be well represented! Tune in to  at 6:30 p.m. to see the matchups!

Patterfrick:   Ohio got shafted! They deserved a better game!

Bobcatattack:    You mean well-represented on the INTERNET. Terrible.

MannyCLE:   you and your colleagues have driven  so far into the ground that 16-4 Ohio can't even get enough respect to play on TV

ou_country:
Well represented, sure, but how does Ohio not get an ESPNU/ESPN2 game?

Jscottfitzwater:
You owe people an apology for this lie. RT : Just got off BracketBusters call. Let's just say the MAC will be well represented!

Mark_Brownstein:
...MAC will be well represented! // Not sure why you are so happy, Ohio got screwed, passed up for 4 home teams with worse RPI's.

BobcatWoods:  : Three MAC Programs Selected For BracketBusters TV Games -   -- are you really trying to say is "tv"?

BarrettJeff:    Ohio got completely screwed! Nothing about this bracketbusters lineup says the MAC is well represented...just saying.

OUfratstar:
Outside of score updates I can honestly say  adds nothing reliable or important to my day

MannyCLE:  If you adjust for coverage inflation (networks like ESPN U, STO, internet etc) the MAC is at historic low for bball.

JGuyMAC:
If I had any say in today's BracketBuster match-ups then I'd give you some answers. However, I had no input in them whatsoever. Sorry.

Bobcatattack:    You mean like getting the most-attended conference game (Ohio/Miami on1/21) in MAC history on TV? Not so much.

MannyCLE:
I want to meet with you in person and tell you how to do your job. If the MAC was better as a whole, (your job) OHIO would be on TV

MattStruble:   OU has the biggest RPI disparity of any of the  matchups. When you said "well represented" I assumed that included OU

JGuyMAC:
One game last year - three this year. I'd say that's an improvement...

Mark_Brownstein:   You do a fine job, but its really one game to two games. ESPN3 hardly counts for anything.

JGuyMAC:   ESPN3 is available in over 70 million households. I'd say that's pretty good coverage. Smart TV is the next big thing...

MannyCLE:   Director of Comm's job: Get fans/league awareness, which builds programs tradition, which leads to success, which leads to multibid

JGuyMAC:   Look. I knew we had three teams being chosen on the show. I didn't know networks or match-ups at the time. Time to move on...

BobcatAttack:    I get that. Just don't announce that the MAC is well-represented when it is not. That's all I'm saying.

I certainly don't mind.  What I don't get is, if he has no sway in games, why post that the "MAC will be well represented"?  Also, I'd like to know what the criteria are that they use to select teams.  My hunch is that TV market or potential TV viewership is involved.  Otherwise, why show UT-Arlington at SD State?

Like he said, when he originally tweeted he only knew the MAC had 3 TV games and no more specifics.  He thinks ESPN3 counts, others don't.  I don't think the backlash was necessary.  It's not like he said "OHIO WILL BE THRILLED!"

I just want the MAC to be accountable for something. If Jeremy Guy or the MAC Commissioner have no say in such things, then what exactly are we getting for our money? If this conference is to improve, it needs to have people that have influence. You would hope that they would build relationships via the football contract that they could use to benefit basketball.

I also don't agree with his logic that 1 to 3 is improvement. First, I don't count ESPN3 as a nationally televised broadcast. In a couple of years, we may look at it that way. All MAC games are on MAC-Sports.com which in theory means it's in EVERY home. By his logic, does that count as being nationally televised? I certainly wouldn't count them that way. Second, the real question is did the MAC get what it deserved. Maybe the MAC only deserved 1 TV game in 2011. This year, it deserved 3 and got 2.

Do you mean as opposed to the 100% of the households that the game would have already been available in with the already free streaming video of all Ohio homegames?

But to his point, the MAC didn't get screwed. Ohio got screwed.  Akron and Buffalo did very well.  MAC fans should be happy. Ohio fans should be pissed.

wHICH IS REALLY fU$%ED UP considering the Ohio program far outstrips the other 2 in attendance and support and is perched to take the program to the next level. A little reward would be nice for consistently filling the stand and making the MAC on TV look good. The league office needs to get off Kent and Krons nutzz and look at where the dollars are being generated. Bobcats need to nut up and destroy this opponenet and Bobcat Nation needs to remind the MAC office en masse when that happens.

I got a good chuckle out of that response. Sounds more like an ESPN3 salesman than someone who works for the MAC.

Three points:
- I really don't like the Bracket buster.  Never have.  That said.....
- Those ripping on this guy have done Ohio no favors.  To him, we are now a school with a bunch of mean spirited jerks as fans.
- Akron is leaps and bounds the best program in the MAC.  Glad to see them get some TV time in this.
- Ohio should've gotten a TV game over Buffalo.  But, are we sure the MAC had any say on this?
- MAC fans in general are in no position to complain about anything.  The MAC just hasn't delivered for years now.  I don't see it changing due to the low salaries of coaching staffs.

My issue is the "well represented" line. The MAC is not well represented on TV.

But Manny needs to rein it in. I think he posts here.

Three counterpoints:

1) People like Jeremy on Twitter get crap like this all the time.  It's always wise to select your words carefully though, and some of those comments seemed more emotional than though out.

2) Akron is not "leaps and bounds" the best program.  Maybe in the last 2-3 years.  Do you think they are THAT much better than OU or Kent over the last five years?  If so, why?

3)  We're kidding ourselves if we believe this selection is based on merit. Instead, I say it's based on potential TV viewership.  Buffalo has greater viewership power than does OUr Bobcat Nation.

Edit:  I'll add, I love Bracketbuster Saturday, or what it used to be.  It used to be about GOOD mid-major basketball.  It seems to have become more about bigger mid-major basketball TV markets now.

Uhhhhh

really? Painful but true. THey are consistently getting better milage out of their athletes and getting to the title game consistently as well as winning games on the road and at home. I don't like Dambrot but he gets those kids playing together and is now bringing in great talent with Zeke, Walsh, Diggs and some up and coming studs thanks to the on campus toruneys and suppor t by King James. Groce needs to figure out the way to win those recruiting wars and become the Butler, GOnzaga etc of the MAC. We have many things going for us....just got to get the full program elevated.

Borna:  You've alluded multiple times in the past to us being "on the verge" of a major program advancement.  What do you see that causes you to feel this way?  Seems to me we're an above-average program that has not shown the ability to put all of the pieces into place.  What's on the horizon that I do not see? Not being a smart-ass. I really would like to know.

I don't buy the thought that ESPN3 is no different than our webcasts.  All we have to do is compare hits at ESPN.com versus OhioBobcats.com to put an end to that discussion.  It is no different to you and I, but in terms of exposure and the term "national TV"...it is entirely different.

And the list goes on.....

Fact of the matter is that Smart TV is nowhere NEAR the same thing as being on regular TV.  Honestly, how many times have you sat down and thought to yourself... "Hey, I know!  Let's spend an evening surfing the 'Ol Xbox and see what my ESPN app is showing?"  No... the only time most people are going to watch ESPN 3 is if they're looking for a particular game.  There is almost 0% chance that anyone is going to stumble upon a game on ESPN3 the way they would find a game on ESPN/2 .

I'd venture to say that quite a few folks who watch ANY mid-major basketball game simply stumble upon it while flipping through the channels.  "Hmmm.I've already seen this episode of American Pickers... and I can recite this particular Ancient Aliens verbatim... let's see what else is on... oh look, Mid-Major basketball.. that'll be good background noise while I play Temple Run on my iPad"

What's ironic is that nobody cares one bit when we're playing a completely unappealing football schedule, yet ESPN flubs one, leaving us with UNC-Ashville, and all hell breaks loose.

Cue the "But, LOVE, your logic is flawed...." in 1....2....3....

It's not. We were 9-4 in football and got rewarded with an awful trip to Idaho (I know, I know all 40 of you had a great time) to play Utah State (I know, I know - they almost beat Auburn). We are 16-4 in basketball and we got rewarded with an almost equally bad situation. I'm not sure what the difference is.

Until we want to step up and play some quality opponents either here, there, or anywhere - I think we have to accept the reality of these matchups manufactured by a 3rd party. If I'm sitting at ESPN, I'm looking at our wins and saying "Yeah, that's nice, but who have they actually played or beaten that REALLY matters right now?" - The answer is maybe Louisville. Maybe. We just haven't played anyone to enhance our resume, regardless of what the RPI says.

I'm not taking anything away from our season so far. All of us know that the UNI, Oakland, etc road wins were special. Unfortunately, those teams aren't all that attractive right now either, which is taking some luster off the 'Cats. I realize it more then ever these days, when you have a chance to turn out the lights on a team like Louisville, you better damn well do it. That's why I was so unbelievably angry immediately following that game. I look at the non-conference games in terms of their March meaning. Not just as singular games prior to the MAC Slate.

Jeremy Guy is a turd. That goes without saying. He's just a lackey at the MAC Office. I don't really fault the MAC or ESPN on this one. As much as it pains me, I think we have to look in the mirror. Instead of NC A&T, Morgan State, Kennesaw, Portland, etc - couldn't we have upgraded just a little bit and still accomplished the same thing?

It's the same thing in football. If you want to make a living off New Mexico State, Idaho, Louisiana Lafayette, etc etc (And most of you do) - then we need to accept that we're never going to amount to anything more then an early December, Tuesday Night, Bowl Team. I'd like to be more then that, just like I'd like to be one of the teams in the marquee Murray/Saint Marys game, but I know I'm in the minority.

I just logged in to ask how many of you regularly watch games -- other than Ohio games -- on ESPN3.

AthensBlock already made my point for me though. Personally, I'll stop and watch other college games while channel surfing, but I never go to the computer to check what's on ESPN 3 while channel surfing.

I disagree.  Nobody seeks out ESPN3 unless they are already looking for a specific game.  It's not something you just come across flipping around the dial.  Heck, it's not even easy to find on the ESPN site.  It's not listed in the paper in the TV listings.  The amount of extra exposure we get is extermely limited at best.  The one nice thing is that our game is listed in the notable Bracket Busters games but that's it.

Edit: I guess I should have read the whole thread before replying. AthensBlock and athena made the same point.

Let's just start a new "leave the MAC" thread.  Face it guys, in both football and basketball, this league ain't going nowhere fast (or slowly).  It is what it is and has been that way for the 40+ years I've watched it.  Just accept that.  Or find Mr. Moneybags so that we can put the necessary resources into going somewhere else!  I vote for the latter!

I don't think AthensBlock, athena, or even you addressed what I was talking about.  I never said ESPN3 is as good or even close to ESPN2 or ESPNU, which is all you guys seem to be arguing.  Of course being on actually television is infenitely better.

I was just commenting on you and TT's comments that the ESPN3 game is no different than any other home game because of the ohiobobcats.com webcasts.  I disagree.  ESPN3 may not be terribly visible or bring in many casual viewers, but they do more than ohiobobcats.com.  You go to ESPN and click on basketball scores as the game is going on and the score is complemented by a "Watch!" link to watch the game.  If we are talking "national exposure"...that is far from the same thing as the link that all of us diehard Bobcat fans follow for a normal home game webcast.

Huh? Murray State has won 21 games straight and beat the two best teams in C-USA (USM/Memphis) plus Dayton. Saint Mary's has beaten a good BYU team (2x), Gonzaga, and an average Mo State team, while only losing to a very underrated Denver, and highly rated Baylor.

Those aren't bad resumes at all IMO.
