Basketball budgets (2010):

Ohio: $2,327,125
South Florida: $3,215,424
Michigan: $4,913,440

The operative phrase here is "return on investment."

Agreed. I wonder what UNC's budget is. I'll bet it's at least 7M. Marquette spends about 8M.

N.C. State's frugality is stunning for an ACC team.

Yeah I was shocked by that too. They spend the least of any ACC team, over $700k less than Georgia Tech, who ranks 11th in the conference in terms of budget.

I am surprised how low Ohio State's spending is. And agreed on the NC State stuff.

What do they spend it on?  Coaches' salaries?  Travel?

Recruiting, tutors, transportation, locker room toys, "hostesses," coaches' salaries and benefits, fancy training table meals, fancy athlete apartments, etc.

HOLD ON!  Northwestern is 4th in the nation, spending over $10 million?!?!  They've never even been to the dance....EVER!  How is this rationalized at the university?  I feel like that has to be a misprint.  That is the absolute worst return on investment in all of college athletics.

You probably have to figure in cost of living. If they are playing for apartments for athletes or for coaches and staff, well Chicago can very expensive.

$2,254,076 for NC State women's basketball. 67th most in the country. Last in the ACC again, but less than $100k lower than Wake Forest.

Evanston is not as expensive as Brooklyn or the Bronx, and yet LIU and Manhattan are regularly at the bottom of that list.
