This is mainly for Time Warner customers like myself who do not already have free access to March Madness Live (http://www.ncaa.com/march-madness). If you have Time Warner, or any other cable service not partnered with March Madness Live, it costs $3.99 to watch games online.

Coke Zero is running a promotion right now giving away free promo codes for it. Just text "0YOURTEAMNAMEHERE" to 2653 and you'll receive a promo code and instructions. I just did it with "0ohio" and can confirm that it works.  Tested it on the USF-Cal game and the picture looks great.

After you're registered, just make sure you unsubscribe to the texts by texting "Stop" to 2653 and following those instructions.

Also you'll be able to download the app(s) to watch on iPads, other tablets and phones.

Thank you so very much.  I'm going to be on vacation for much of the tourney and you just saved me mucho $$$.  I followed your instructions and am now set to watch NCAA basketball on my iPad and iPhone.

But I wonder if this is the type of text message that would fall under those premium texts that charge 4.99 per month to get...and even though you stop future texts...you still get the first 4.99 charge because of getting the first text before stopping...thus not being free..

If it is truly free....then its for me and give me 3....thanks for the info either way...I will look into it.

Good point. I haven't seen anything about. I found this on Slick Deals (http://slickdeals.net/f/4014000-Free-NCAA-March-Madness-Promo-Codes-For-Viewing-On-Computer-And-Mobile-Devices?) They linked to a release on Yahoo Finance (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/coke-zero-jump-starts-ncaa-171100392.html)

If you're worried, you can always just buy it for $3.99. Not a bad price at all for the whole tournament.

Hmm . . . I thought it was $3.99 per game, perhaps I read it wrong.  At any rate, $0.00 is a better price than $3.99.   I doubt that this is a big charge text message or Coke's promotion would turn out to be a turn off.  They want to boost sales of Coke Zero not infuriate their customer base.

I just remember a year or so ago companies like Verizon were unlawlfully allowing these 3rd party companies to initiate texts...unwanted to their users..usually about getting game codes etc..and the carriers got in trouble for it and had to refund money because the texts were initiated by the companies and not the user...if this is considered a 3rd party premium text and the user initiates the text..I think at least the first charge..whatever it is...would stick. Charges would atop after txting STOP.

Either its another possible option and I will look into it...thanks.

The way I read the NCAA deal is 3.99 for all games...and if this is a premium text it would most likely be set charge per month and not text..its just usually these services send 1 text a month of a promotion or game code/cheat until stopped....back in the day it was around 4.99 per month of txts.

On the other hand though I have bought several deals of slickdeals and they have all been legit and if they arent..they have a forum section where people post and will soon let you know of any strings attatched.

FWIW I've interned at a couple ad agencies and some of our clients ran similar promotions (free Spotify accounts before it was released to the public comes to mind first). There was never a charge to the user for signing up. Basically it's a very cheap way to advertise and the theory is consumers are more likely to actually read the ads because they got something in return. The companies just bank on most users being too lazy to stop the texts/emails and thus seeing more ads.

Coke is a well-respected company and a corporate partner of the NCAA. I doubt they would want to deal with the backlash from charging everyone $4.99 a month for receiving a free promo code for a $3.99 product.

Although I understand your concern because I have seen those recurring charge programs that are initiated by the user.

Looks like it is sold out (or gave out). I got a response that they are all out of free passes.

Bought it for the iPod, and to enable fullscreen on my laptop.  Really, $3.99 for the tournament is a bargain at twice the price.

Bringing this thread back because there is another similar deal that I just found on sellout.woot.com....this one is from Allstate, and there is no texting anything..simply a link (click the I want one button) to follow and give a name and email and then the next screen is a code to apply to the march madness computer/phone app.

It does say 5000 codes to give out, and i got mine a little over an hour ago, but it looks like its still active as of now.

I know its not as great as if it were before the first weekend, but if you are like me, I scheduled everything last weekend around the BBall and I was around a TV, now that the next weekend is here, family and Dad life has to take the front seat again, and I will have to watch (except for Ohio's game of course) this weekend through the phone/tablet.

here is the link:
