I'm liking this matchup. USF isn't a high scoring team. Their lead scorer averages 9.6 points per game. With OUr size advantage and shooting capabilities, I see DJ and the gang picking their defense apart. They didn't look impressive at all in the first half  vs Temple, but they did shoot 65% in the second half. So that is something to be aware of. I don't think shooting nights like that are common, but we know what they are capable of. I see a similar game as the Michigan game, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bobcats run away with it.

Also worth noting: All of the announcers and analysts referred to us as Ohio tonight. I did not hear Ohio U once.

It's weird to say that a 12 seed is a worse match-up than a four seed, but Ohio will be challenged by USF's size -- especially when it comes to rebounding. On the flip side, if Ohio can get those turnovers and get out and run, there's a potential to pull away from them.

I think South Florida is a tougher draw for Ohio than Michigan was.  Hopefully Coach Groce and his staff watched USF's game with Temple as I can't imagine we have a lot of tape on USF.  USF looked just as athletic as Ohio is and I'm not sure we'll be able to "out-quick" them.  Keep in mind too that USF is coached by Stan Heath, who took Kent State to the Elite 8 in 2002 (ableit with Gary Waters' recruits), so this is definitely not a team that Ohio should be overlooking, and I'm sure they're not.

The Ohio coaches stayed to watch USF/Temple.

USF has a size advantage and will be a challenge on the glass at both ends. Our speed, transition, and ball control will be our advantage. Hopefully, we will push the game more up-tempo and make their big guys run. Make fatigue an issue. It does appear they are well balanced (no clear go-to scoring leader) and have depth in their line-up and will sub out. Their perimeter defense appears comparable to ours at least on a stat sheet, 29% opp 3pt fg %. Anyone can be streaky, good or bad come tourney time. I would rather prepare that they will be hot and then have us have to execute our game plan. This will be a close one I believe. Whichever team stays true to their plan and forces the other out of theirs will come out the victors.

I must admit that I was looking forward to playing TU.
We beat them in football and would have the chance to beat them in basketball.
I actually thought that TU would be the easier game for us despite their #5 seeding.
I am currently more concerned about this game.
I am thinking that USF did have to "play in" to this tournament. That says something.
I do like how our guys are thinking about this tournament. Their mind set is great.

After the Georgetown win, I got the feeling Ohio was gassed. Scoring 97 took everything they had in the tank.

I don't get that feeling about this year. There was little straining to get that win on Friday night. Ohio simply played a solid basketball game. Cooper is stronger. Johnson and Hall are the type of energy guys that I don't know if Ohio had in 2010.

You could tell that we were gassed with about 4 min or so left against Michigan. With that said, I like that USF had to play in that extra play-in game.....we need to run whenever possible - we got zero transition points against Michigan....USF was ice cold shooting in the first half, but seemed patient against Temple's match-up zone. USF will be more athletic than Michgian was, but not quite at the swarming level of when we played Tennessee in the tournament 2 years ago. USF a strong defensive team.....just need to play smart and at least break even on the boards...

Ohio didn't give up a point in the last 4:15. Gassed teams don't defend that well.

USF scares me because I see them capable of making a First Four to Final Four run like VCU last year.

They are hungry too, because they are trying to change the basketball culture there.

I agree with the thought of USF being tougher than Michigan. I think we are tougher than Temple too. To be completely honest, the two best teams out of the four are playing Sunday. I don't care what the seeds say.

I was a little disappointed to see we are 2.5 pt underdogs tomorrow.  Can anyone tell me the last time a MAC team was favored in the tournament?

I might be wrong but I think Central was a slight favorite against Creighton in 2003.

For those that care the coaches have all of the necessary USF videos, as there is a bank that they can draw from for each game.  They may only want the 5/6 games  that would be close to our style of play.

I don't think that we were gassed as was previously expressed,  We played great defense and UM could not make shots because they lost their legs.

That's a great point, Turney.

The NCAA tournament looms so large that it's easy to forget that just seven days before it was the MAC tournament.

And it's another reason I love the bye system the MAC has implemented. The likely champion isn't run down heading into the tourney.

South Florida was like 10-6 in Big East play and that conference record is impressive.  They play great defense and like Ohio have earned their way with tough defense with timely offense.  Two junkyard dogs going after the last bone. This one will be physical. This is the game we may need the bench to contribute more because of fouls. Who wins the battle on the boards and lose balls wins this game. South Florida and Ohio are two teams that got here with defense and tough play.

Jon Smith didn't see many minutes at Michigan right? He should be rested. I assume he will see many more minutes just to clean boards and get fouled.

Were gonna be disruptive of their offense and will have to earn every point.

It opened at USF -4, so it's come down.  Most places have it at USF -2 now.

I don't like the fact that USF is a directional. Directionals have been muddying up Ohio's path to glory for way too long. Whether it's sucking the life out of the MAC, providing unnecessary agita about rumors of their ilk "augmenting" the MAC  or hurting us when least expected, directionals have proven to be a terrible scourge.

I knew that we would beat Michigan. At best I have very, very guarded optimism that we could win - only because of the compassal nature of our opponent.

I would just like to express my love for the turn of phrase "compassal nature" in that post. I feel like a British person would pronounce that in an awesome way I cannot fathom.

We got a nice shout-out on the scoreboard at halftime of the Cavaliers game at the Q. Congratulated us on our win over Michigan and wished us luck tonight.
