Probably true about most fans, but some have debated me that it's not true about OHIO.  Another illustration.

Look at the Temple hoops game last year; the Miami/Kent/Akron games from most years; stories of the DePaul game years ago; UCONN & Pitt in football, etc...

The formula for getting seats filled is both winning (no duh) and playing somewhat of a name brand opponent.  Many have argued that we have to do special promotions and giveaways to get these larger crowds and I agree that's certainly helps.  Many also point out that it's hard to get teams to come to the Convo/Peden--I guess that's true as well.

What's also true is that OHIO fans show up when we Win & Schedule somebody with name recognition.

Case in point today---weekday game, 7-8 hours from Athens versus a big name in Michigan (and not one with Eastern, Central or Western in front of it or a hyphen team) and OHIO sold out of it's allotment of tickets on day #1 for Friday night.  According to the article, we cannot get any more.  That's a lot of Bobcats making a huge, expensive effort to support their team.

GO CATS!!! (and go get us some games like this at home once in a while)

I'm sure it being a Friday instead of Thursday helped plus the memories of G'town are still fresh.  Hope the place is rockin Green & White -- being St. Pat's Day, some of the other teams' fans may be wearing green, too.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

If you guys keep it close or take a lead early, no doubt that arena will be supporting you over us. Hell, if USF makes it through tomorrow, half the dang arena will be green.

You're outta luck Cza, 3 quarters of the arena will be making noise against you from the tip, if the crowd smells an upset brewing it'll get insane as the final buzzer gets closer. I think thats one of the reason you see so many upsets during the first weekend of the tournament: not only is the game on a "neutral" court, but the majority of the crowd is with the underdog of BOTH games in a session. I saw it with my own eyes a couple years ago when the tournament was in buffalo. In short, while team "A" (the favorite of a given pairing) has their fans rooting for them, team "B" is being shouted on my their own fans as well as the fans of teams C & D (the other two teams in that session), not only because everyone loves an underdog, but also because fans of C and D would rather face the underdog in the following round.

Great that we sold out so quickly! I don't think we sold out the last two times we were in the dance. The other thing worth noting is that only Ohio Bobcat Club members could buy tickets today...that's very impressive.

No doubt. Was at the BTT this past weekend and there were a lot of "Minnesota" fans in the building Friday night. Michigan's alumni base is pretty national so we usually rep well, but more often than not, those alums are far bigger football fans so who knows about the crowd. Sucks for USF and Cal (more so for Cal) as they have about 48 hours to get travel plans arranged so expecting majority of the crowd to be Mich/Temple/Ohio.

I could see some Temple diehards cheering for Michigan despite the seeding and who we want to face issues... They really don't like us over there.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Do temple basketball diehards know that they have a football team?

The smart ones will. We are an easier match up for them than you guys. If you show you can beat us, you can probably beat Temple. Michigan and Temple are very similar teams on the perimeter from my limited experience watching them and if you can figure out a way to contain the outside shooters while exploiting our lack of inside presence, could do the same to them.

It is the Ohio Section that sold out, as did the 50 student tickets. There are still tickets on sale, but will be in the upper deck, not in the Ohio section.
