We might be in for a very deep lineup next year if a few chips fall a certain way. ( Excluding potential transfers)

Out:

F Carter
G Schmock

Maybe Out / In:

F Vander Plas RS 5th Year (one year eligibility left confirmed)
G Tenerowicz 5th Year ( year of eligibility left)
G McDay SR (off team for personal reasons, believe he is still enrolled)

In

Guards

Josh McDaniel 5th year
Miles Brown SR
Mark Sears JR - Most likely starting PG
Lukas Frazier JR
Olumide Adelodun SO
AJ Brown FR
Elmore James IV FR
Ajay Sheldon FR
Ben Estis FR (preferred walk-on)

Forwards

Dwight Wilson III RS-Fifth Year
Ben Roderick SR
Sam Towns JR
Colin Granger JR - Redshirt?
IJ Ezuma SO
AJ Clayton SO
Aiden Hadaway FR

The four additional freshman guards will help our rotation but I'm sure they won't get much time right away. But, Brown and James have massive potential to be impact players out of the gate for us. If Vander Plas does return, we might have a scary batch of imposing forwards on our hands. Ben Estis is a preferred walk on player who could receive McDay's scholarship if McDay doesn't return to the team. Could be a solid SG / PG, he's also Chad Estis' son who played here in the 1990's.

I would be completely shocked if one/two didn't transfer out. Happens every year.

Yeah me as well. Could see Olumide potentially being one of them

If McDay does not return, there is a lot of room for a few new guards to make their way into the rotation immediately.

Vander Plas returning would be enormous. I say that because I have a little concern that Wilson might not be as effective as he was last year. And that's not only due to injury recovery. Wilson does most of his work getting a good look at a shot before he gets the ball. He's not a Tony Campbell or a Leon Williams who you can dump the ball into and then he makes the move. Sears would need to improve his distributing in order to get the most out of Dwight.

One other thing I'll add is that if Sam Towns is 6'9'', AJ Clayton is 6'11''. Just an observation I've had but had no place to put it.

Agree with these points. I hope Wilson is 100% but I'm fully prepared for him not to be. I'm sure with some more development Sears will become even better at ball distribution. I believe Clayton is 6'8 officially but wouldn't doubt if he's 6'11 now. Dude's a straight monster, coming from a guy who is current classmates with him. Great kid to talk to as well.

I will be overjoyed if BVP returns. Honestly, BVP, please do it! You would not regret another year at OHIO!

From what I can gather, the McDay situation could go either way. He' stuck around this season to take classes so he could stay but at the same time, wouldn't be shocked if he was a transfer portal candidate.

Just learned today McDaniel DOES have another year of eligibility and will be using it next year. Will have some competition though.

Next year is definitely a rebuild type year, but a promising one. Sears, Brown, Roderick, Wilson are who they are. Everyone else is a mystery. Can Clayton do more on offense? Are Frazier and Adelodun ready? How will the recruits fit in? Are any ready to log serious minutes right away? Gonna be fun to watch.

I understand where you’re coming from but I don’t consider next year a rebuilding year. If you have Sears and potentially Wilson/BVP with the incoming recruiting class, expectations are going to remain very high. Even without Wilson/BVP, there’s enough young talent to at least be competitive in the MAC.

Of course, you can throw away everything I just said if we get hammered by the transfer portal which is always a possibility in the new world of college athletics.

Agree, I see it though as a build further upon the foundation year. But, I'm interested to see if one or two players end up transferring out. BVP coming back would be a mega bonus for us.

It would not be surprising to see Granger in the portal. He isn't playing.

Adelodun has taken Towns playing time lately. We don't know if he passes him on the depth chart or what has happened. It is easy to see one of them transfer.

We don't know exactly what caused McDay's personal leave or what he is thinking. Boals has been patient with him and seems to think there is a chance of him coming back.

Vander Plas seems to personally not know if he wants to come back or not.

I think Clayton has a bright future. He's not being asked to do much right now. If you remember, BVP didn't do much beside roam the perimeter looking for catch and shoot 3's his freshman year, either.

The way I see it, the only way next year is a rebuilding year is if we get hit big in the transfer portal. This year's freshman were never going to get a ton of playing time with what we had returning. The Wilson and McDay situations have actually allowed some of them to get more PT this year than they would have otherwise. I see big jumps coming from Ezuma and Clayton next year. Olumide intrigues me as I didnt expect him to play much this year, but he is big and athletic and has shown he can knock down shots in limited action. It appears that our entire incoming class will raise the bar even more when it comes to athleticism, esp in the backcourt. Will that translate to early production? We will have to wait until the fall to find out.

McDaniel is a walk-on...so don't expect him to see the floor at all next season.

No way is next year a rebuilding year. At least three of the four incoming freshmen are going to play next year as well...heck...maybe even all four. Combine that with Sears...Wilson...an improved Roderick (I mean...he can't be worse next year??) and possibly BVP and this team is going to be fine. Plus, Boals is going to find magic in the portal. My guess is that at least two guys will transfer out.

Well, I love the optimism. Yes, BVP returning for year #6 would be huge. (I assumed not returning.) And I hope all the above works out (impact freshmen, impact transfer, Roderick accuracy, Wilson 100%.)

This incoming class has me very, VERY excited. Brown seems like he could be an immediate weapon out wide. Just imagine the lineups we could concoct, just dangerously athletic.

LOL! I’m just eager to see how this class will slot into the lineup. One of the best classes we’ve had in a long, long time!

Can you share more details about what you learned regarding "will be using it next year," and if you meant McDay or McDaniel?

If I read English, I read this as McDaniel has another year and plans on coming back.

Yes, I think they spell them as A.J., AJ, and Ajay so there is that. We have offered another AJ in the next year's class. If Michael Brown is a walk-on again there will be three players with the Brown surname.

And that English also says he would have ":some" competition when, we all know, Mr. McDaniel would have "considerable" and arguably even "insurmountable" competition. Now Mr McDay would certainly face "some" competition in his return. Oh that pesky English language.
