. . . look more like Miami (Ohio) or NIU student sections.

I posted this in a thread in the OZone section of BA yesterday but thought it needs more exposure.

I saw a home game at Grand Canyon University while channel surfing earlier this season and immediately realized that this is by far the best student section I have seen in the nation. Watched them again on purpose Saturday night to see if it was just a one-game situation but came away even more convinced that this student section, in terms of quantity and quality, is tops in the nation.

This is legit insanity, and I love it! Will be using these as reference in my continued efforts in the O-Zone!

A private for profit religious University with 70K online students (granted they also have 20k on campus), just baffles me that they even exist!

Just curious, is there any diversity among those 20K on campus? Doesn't appear to be watching these youtube videos or seeing them on ESPN. The basketball roster has diversity, but I'm wondering about the general student population.

Interesting, they claim to only be 48% Caucasian, in 2018-2019.

They are quite a unicorn, but going to for-profit saved them from closing.

Their alumni accumulated student loan debt is well into the billions.

The most crazy crowd I ever saw was in about 1996 and I was watching it on ESPN2 from my dorm room at OU. UC-Santa Barbara was at home in their "Thumderdome" playing for, I think, first place against a Pacific team that if I recall had future #1 overall NBA draft pick Michael Olowakandi. I was one of those things that they had the reputation of being the rowdiest Big West student section and with their rare chance on national TV they were determined to show it to the country. You could hear the constant chanting background noise on TV very easily and there were flashing lights, banners, lasers, throwing stuff on the court.... Play was stopped numerous times. The crowd itself got T'd by the referees about 5 times. The refs warned that they were going to start ejecting the acting head coach of UCSB after the first 3 Technical fouls or so. If I recall they got T'd up the final time ahead by about 5 points right after getting the ball back with about 30 seconds left. The coach that had to leave went over to the PA mic and yelled, "You stupid idiots."

Damn, that's pretty hardcore dumbassery with the 5 techs.

GCU's saving grace is that it's historically non-profit and they've tried to go back to non-profit. Won't happen officially until they separate from Grand Canyon Education, Inc. I'm sure most of their programs can set alumni up for rewarding careers. I once worked for one of "those" schools where I couldn't say the same. It was 2009 and I basically took what I could get in that economy. We had eight academic programs, but I could honestly say only one was any good (photography) and even in that kind of program, career readiness depends greatly on the person having entrepreneurial spirit. One of my colleagues tried to enroll homeless people. Definitely not proud to have worked in the industry. In hindsight, I should have quit earlier and tended bar until I found the good opportunity.
