It's not a great schedule from a competitive standpoint, but I don't think it's that bad.  Kansas and Temple will be two of the better OOC opponents that MAC teams face this year.  Oakland, IUPUI, Marshall, Illinois State, and Robert Morris are all quality opponents, even if not marquee names.  Most of the rest of the games should be wins, although some of those teams will likely be significantly improved this year (Santa Clara in particular).  Also, if we have taken care of business heading into February (i.e. no bad losses and possibly a win versus KU or Temple), then we'll be in position for a strong road game in the BracketBusters.

Remember, this is still an extremely young team, with 8 of our 11 eligible scholarship players next year at the freshman or sophomore levels.  While I might have preferred one or two more challenging games, including an extra game or two on the road, playing a Miami-esque schedule would not have been prudent.

I agree with FLOMO for the most part. This is a solid schedule that if we can take care of business in the conference and win it again this coming year will definitely give us a better seed than last year. Ideally some of the games are swapped for away rather than home just to give the guys a little better road experience but a lot of that is unmanageable due to what the contracts state (i.e. Delaware, Robert Morris, IUPUI).

That's too bad that the Norfolk State game couldn't be away...or we didn't try to schedule something with Old Dominion so Devaughn could get a game close to home. Other than that, I think it's an okay schedule. We have four games against NCAA tournament qualifiers and three of them are at home. Plus the students will have six chances to see the team before they fly south for the winter.

I have no problem with the schedule.

Lots of home games. Lots of mid-majors. Wish we could ban the hotline to Norfolk already and replace it with one to a real school, but whatever.

Should be fun.

Does this mean that we have moved to "next level"?  A whole slew of home games designed to inflate the win/loss record, a top echelon team on a neutral court, and a couple of road games tossed in for good measure.  This is exactly the type of schedule I complain about other teams having.

Don't we owe Wright State a trip to their place because they came to Athens for the Bracketbuster game?

Schedule looks quite weak except for Kansas/Temple. It's nice Temple comes to OU.  Maybe Illinois State is decent...

Either way, let's just get going in time for conference play.

We do, but not this year.  I believe beginning last year, the agreement has changed that the return game must be within two years, rather than the following year.  This way, teams can balance their schedules with one home and one away game through the BracketBuster, rather than both the game and return game being home or both being away (as they have been for us in the past).  We will be @Wright State in 2011-2012.

While I would definitely rather have another game or two against a good mid major or mid to low level BCS conference team, I think this is a pretty solid schedule, especially when you factor in the team's youth.

Padding the win column might also help us in regard to attracting more fans..  Hopefully this schedule isn't the ultimate destination for our hoops program, but instead a transition to some bigger & better things a few years down the road (semester scheduling should help with this).

I like this schedule, our team is not short on talent, but it is a team that has a lot of young players that need to get playing time, and its a team that still has a question mark regarding team unity. Winning makes everyone happier, if we can win some easy games in the beginning and build confidence, team unity, and trust then I'm all for it. Kansas and Temple will be plenty challenging for us, going 1-1 against those two would be a big boost. I'm ready for the season to get started.

MY STATE. MY TEAM.

We likely put up another 20 win season with this schedule, but could challange the school record of 25 wins set in 1994 with a strong MAc season. We will need to prove we can win away from home come January, February and March.  Expectations should be high with that many home games, but there are some tough teams coming into town. Team will need to improve protecting home court. 4 losses in the Convo last year.  Need to keep a clean slate at home especially against the MAC.

I actually like this schedule. Lots of home games is always nice. Maybe would have thrown in another high major in there like a UC, Marquette, NC State, Virginia, etc. but I think this will work for this team. If we see this type of schedule next year, then I might be disappointed.

In 5 years, all anyone will do is look back on the schedule and say, "wow, we had a good season!" No one will remember it as "soft" unless it's us old-timers, and we bring it up.

Just enjoy it.

I post this in fear and trepidation with A. Ruck's acidic critique looming large, but some of these teams are better than their name would indicate.  For example, as Flomo said, Oakland is a good program.  Valpo didn't have a good season last year, but most seasons they are good.  Marshall, IUPUI and Robert Morris all were more than respectable in their conferences last year.  This is not a tough schedule, but neither is it merely a parade of "cupcakes".

The two exhibition games could prove interesting.  Wooster played good basketball last year, and Walsh is a strong NAIA Div. II program, certainly better than what we saw from Taylor.

Looking forward to all the home games.

We're talking exhibitions here...apparently, there will be no regular season contests against the likes of Ohio Valley University this year.

Walsh finished 32-3 last year, and made it to the NAIA Div. II national title game, where they lost by one point to Saint Francis.  Walsh is in the process of upgrading their program to NCAA Div. II.

Wooster finished 25-6, won the North Coast Athletic Conference title, then came within one game of the NCAA Div. III Final Four.

Neither of these teams should beat the Bobcats, but they have enough going on to give Ohio a decent run if the Bobcats don't come to play or show the normal early season jitters.  They are both better than the Taylor team we saw in the Convo, and Wooster has improved since their visit to the Convo.

I like these exhibition matchups.  (I would have enjoyed seeing Mountain State of West Va. come in for an exhib.  They always have some Div. I talent.)

We should be playing the best teams we can possibly schedule. It's very tough to schedule above your level, as you must go on the road. But what would be wrong with playing 2 or 3 big ten teams on the road every year? It would toughen us up for the MAC.

No we need the home games to sell season tickets and the wins. There are a lot of solid names on this schedule not just 2 or 3. Valpo, Temple, Kansas, Marshall, Ill St., Santa Clara, St Bonaventure to name a few. Delaware is  a CAA school. Robert Morris and Oakland have been good in recent years. Only a few of dogs (Norfolk, Corpus Christi, Francis) on this schedule.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Fiami @ Peden with 25,086 fans
2023 10-7 near shutout of Iowa State @ Solich Field
2025 17-10 defeat of WVU @ Peden in front of 26,740

Valpo, Santa Clara, Marshall , St. Bonnie, Oakland,Robert Morris and Ill St are NOT solid names. They are solid only in that they are not Southwestern North Dakota Tech and their ilk.

Solid names are Big Ten, Big East, etc. teams.

Kansas, Temple, and top bracket-buster game (which we SHOULD get with this schedule) gives you the 3 top teams...

I like this schedule, if we take care of business at home and play well on the road we enter MAC play with a very good resume.

I've seen crazier things happen.
