Been very quiet on here about mystery illness. What’s the deal? Is he going to play this year? Seems we could have used a 6’8 240 pound frame last night.

I was thinking the same thing myself, FearLeon. Does anyone know if Ezuma is even practicing? We need both Dwight Wilson and Ezuma to really do the damage we want to do in the conference, and hopefully, in the big dance.

I enjoy the banter back and forth with my message board compadres who believe I'm somewhat over the top with my "bigs" obsession. But we got killed on the boards last night with Kentucky's 6-10 center not playing but a minute in the first half! Much less what happened in the second.

So getting those two ballers back is critical, or at least one of them, wouldn't you say?

IJ was dressed and with the team last night. Took part in warm-ups and looked good shooting the ball.

Zero information on his health or why he's not getting any minutes.

He was dressed on the bench and warmed up prior to the Cleveland state game too

In another thread I had mentioned BYU’s starting center (Harward) being out with a virus for 1 month. Speculation was that it was heart related but, that’s all I could find… Point being, IJ’s issue may not be something that is outwardly noticeable but, still something to be handled with care.

Even if it's something that's being handled with care, and he's fully recovered, it may have put him behind in fitness and readiness during a freshman season.

He's been dressed in every game since the exhibition and according to a Tweet I saw a while ago, he played in the scrimmage against UC.

I'm eager to see him in action. His Hargrave film seemed to show that he was physically ready to go as well as having absorbed good coaching.

IIRC he was not dressed for Belmont?

Really unfair to say that. Has been out for 20+ days sick. Dude has the build that's for sure. I was encouraged by what I saw and look forward to him getting his legs back.

Boals mentioned in the post-game that IJ had mono and was out for 2-3 weeks. He's healthy now but slowly trying to get his legs and conditioning back into shape.

So Ezuma is a Jerome Tillman clone in multiple ways?

Wasn't Tillman 6'5" or 6"6"? Izuma looks taller, is listed at 6'8".

Did Jerome have mono? I've forgotten. He was a beast, especially for his size.

As bobcatsquared has noticed, I have a photographic memory when it comes to Ohio basketball.

Jerome had mono to begin his freshman year and didn't debut until we played at UC in mid December.

Jerome was listed at 6'6'', but in reality was no taller than 6'4''. I remember the first time I saw him in person, I walked by him at Ping and thought he looked 6'3''. Amazing that he was not half bad as a backup center to Leon that year.

I can see some Jerome-isms in Ezuma's Hargrave tape. Here's to hoping for a similar career arc, but this time with more MAC titles.

Good call on that. Now that you mention this, I remember going to Fifth Third Arena and being excited to hopefully see the local kid from Beavercreek finally suit up for the Bobcats for the first time.

We were 4-0 and coming off the 2005 NCAA tourney trip. Jerome did make his debut that night.

Then we promptly got whooped by UC.

That was just a couple weeks before the UK game in Cincinnati we discussed previously where we led throughout only to lose it at the end.

That team ended up 19-11 and bowed out in the conference semis to Kant Read State after a much celebrated off-season and non-conference schedule (started 6-1 and almost beat UK). In fact we were 10-2, 4-0 in conference that year then went 9-9 down the stretch (the Jeremy Fears debacle).

Let's hope this years team is entirely different.

I went to that UC game, and it's hard to forget how that Jeremy Fears debacle worked out. His departure ultimately led to Timmy's departure, because Jeremy was the old really good PG he managed to recruit. After that, it was a team loaded with 2's, 3's and 4's that didn't have a decent PG for awhile.

Tillman, for me, is a favorite Bobcat. He got the most out of his abilities and then some in my opinion.

+1. Still ballin' too, at 34. He has played all over the world including the last 8 years in Japan. I lived and played amateur basketball for a team in Japan for a couple years and I'm sure the basketball junkies there hold JT in very high esteem. He's always been a high effort worker.

Not a knock against him lol I wanted him in as soon as BVP picked up his 2nd foul. I definitely saw some positives from him in limited minutes

I felt that Timmy’s undoing was his failure to not only recruit but to coach PG. It wasn’t just Fears. It didn’t matter who he brought in he had no success in keeping them in Athens.

We missed out in recruiting Trent Jr and Fears Jr. Still hoping to see DJ Cooper the 3rd in green & white... If that doesn't work, I guess we start looking for Bert Whittington V?

I've seen crazier things happen.

Anybody know if Thomas Stephens has a son who plays football that can turn into our only PG option?

PG position was part of Larry Hunter's undoing as well. And TOS's alleged expertise in recruiting for that position was what got him the job. Ironic.
