No surprise - NCAA is a joke

https://www.si.com/college/2021/12/10/auburn-bruce-pearl-...

From h article:

"Despite finding Auburn guilty of the highest-level violation—a Level I-aggravated designation for its part in the bribery scandal four years ago—the Committee on Infractions accepted the school’s 2021 postseason ban and applied no additional postseason sanctions. Despite having a head coach involved in his second major infractions case in his last two jobs, Pearl is suspended a mere two games. The charges (which were hidden by the school for nearly two years when it refused to release the Notice of Allegations) were serious; the punishment was not."

"Oh, and keep this in mind: Steve Thompson is Pearl’s extremely effective, highly aggressive attorney. He’s also LSU coach Will Wade’s counsel. And Sean Miller’s, who was fired by Arizona earlier this year.

If big state schools in the SEC violate many more NCAA "rules" the NCAA might just end up giving SMU the death penalty again.

Not that Baylor basketball didn't deserve the death penalty.

The NCAA not only has no real authority to do much of anything useful, but I don't think they want to.

In reality, they're just a broker for the mega millions of TV money for bowl games, the NCAA Tournament, and various sports championships.

Nothing is going to change in this regard.

NCAA is one big court case from really being toothless. And do you want the alternative of no regulation? It’s just like the new free transfer rules, they are driven by activist legislators and judges.

FYI OU_Country, 110% agree. State Athletic Associations are coming under the same activism. Hell there was just a suit filed to create a civilian board to review officials game decisions.

Sports, just like society, are going through changes that probably aren’t healthy. But then, “it is what it is”.

It's silly. Public review of officials? Those who employ the officials are the only ones who should be part of said reviews. Parents, fans in the stands, former players...none of them deserve to be part of that conversation.

Not only that, but a public review of officials will only drive more officials away from the profession. It is a serious problem in many sports and many levels as it is. This would not help.

Agreed but that was a serious court challenge in the last month. And every state association and NCAA is always at the mercy of state legislatures
