Let's put a pin in this.

The team roster is updated on the athletics site. Only 12 players and no Katie Barker. We seriously didn't sign any freshmen? The girl from Parkersburg who joined midseason last year is there, but no one else?

Johnson, Hooks, and Burris in their fourth years is about as good of a trio as you can ask for in the MAC. Throw in Kroll and the Wisconsin transfer and that's a solid starting lineup. Depth and health will be crucial.

Anyone have an idea how we stack with the rest of the conference?

I'm assuming they are still holding Ella Pope's spot who is on her Mormon mission?

My guess is that Barker, after an injury redshirt, had long since graduated and was probably playing through some pain even at her best. She probably had gotten all she wanted from her basketball and academic career and just decided to move on with her life. This team should still be pretty good but it would have been a lot better with her.

Off scholarship from the start of last year are Burke, Baselak, assuming Barker, and presently Pope. Only Mace has been added. One spot is saved for Pope. I'll bet that one spot was given to Rogan who, I believe, was a walkon for her first three years. Even if all of that is true at least one scholarship is unaccounted for.

Kate Dennis joining the Bobcats. Graduating early from Guilford in Illinois. Should be in Athens in December.

ESPN with an article singing the MAC's praises. Nice to get some attention.

Considering that this happened with Mace last year, something like this was the most reasonable guess for why there was a scholarship left open.

The MAC wasn't as good last year as it had been the the four or five years prior. It was pretty disappointing that an Ohio team that seemed like it came in loaded for bear couldn't win it. But I think that the fact that recently the MAC women have generally outplayed the A10, MWC, MVC, WCC and often were only rated behind the American because UConn pulled up their computer averages is something that is lost on most MAC alums that only pay attention to men's basketball.

It is kind of interesting that they classify the Summit as Mid-major. In women's basketball it often does produce some competitive teams at the top but it lacks depth. And like with the WAC and Big West, 20 years ago there would be no argument, but I don't know that the Horizon really qualifies anymore even though in the women's game Green Bay and IUPUI are always good. Slightly higher revenue conferences sort slowly picked programs out of these leagues. I am pretty sure all have recently added schools directly out of D2.

Do we have any insight into what type of OOC schedule the ladies will have?

I don't recall ever hearing of this. Why don't NBA-destined players take some summer courses and do this?

Many are doing this this year due to uncertainty of HS sports all around the country.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like three good recruits. That two will play immediately is a plus, I think.

Apparently, the Syracuse and Ohio State co tracts were home/home deals. According to Arkley, both should visit the Convo in 2021.

Doesn't appear so. Though I did see that the Notre Dame game will be on ESPN+. Is that just because it's #22 Notre Dame?

Huh, I thought the opener was supposed to tip at 7:00.

We're winning late.

Ohio 76
Liberty 72

Final

Erica goes for 30+ and we come back from a double digit first half deficit. Love beating Liberty University in anything.

Early answer to who will take the shots Burke took last year is more Erica. 25 shots and a whopping 15 3 point attempts.

Cece Hooks continue to master the art of driving to the hoop and either hitting the layup or drawing the foul...but needs some lessons from Preston on passing. 0 assists today.

For a team that was such a great 3pt shooting team two years ago Johnson is the best outside shooter in the starting lineup. Bambule played some, and shooting is her main skill, but she won't get a ton of minutes.

If Hooks or Johnson get into foul trouble this team will have a tough time. I suspect that it will need more than the combined 16 points out of Burris and Kroll to gel.

Obviously, I didn't see it but it looked from the stats that a bad shooting first quarter got them into trouble.

She finished 5 of 15 after starting I think 1 of 10. The poor shooting early led to a deficit. Definitely going to need others besides her and Hooks to step up. They combined for 49.

Ohio took the lead in the third quarter and was in control most of the 4th quarter. Liberty hit a couple of 3s in the final 10 seconds to make it a four-point game, but other than that, the Bobcats played pretty well against another traditionally strong mid-major for the final three quarters. Friday will be a huge challenge.

Good win, Bolden got them together at half. Gotta do better than 3 total assists and 4 bench points going forward though. Although she didn't shoot great overall, it sounded like Erica hit some tough shots and the Flames had no answer for her. I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do against ND.
