Covid issues on Kent side?

If Friday's game at BG doesn't mean anything, why even play it?

If Kent shuts down I would imagine they are a no go for the MAC tourney. If so, I would think every team seeded below them will move up 1 slot and the 9th place team at the end of the season will bump up to 8th seed to play the 1st seed.

Sound right?

If that is what happens, that will be when the advantage of being the top seed really “kicks in”.

Yes, the MAC has said any team that announces at least 48 hours before the tournament starts that it can't go will lead to reseeding. Once we get to within 48 hours of the start, the bracket is locked in to place and if a team can't go, it's essentially a forfeit win for the opponent.

Here's a curious question with regards to covid and the MAC: does anyone have a running list of which teams have or have not had covid pauses this year? Any teams that haven't had one yet, man this would be a bad time to have it happen. Especially if you're a top team. I don't recall Toledo having a shut down yet. I think Akron was paused early in the season, non conference time (not 100% sure on that). We have obviously had one. EMU and Miami have had pauses. Not sure about Buffalo.

Does anyone else think the tournament has a little chance of being completed?

It's not Kent that has the issue.

The MAC has made it official. Game off due to complications with our roster. I'd say there's a real possibility our season is over.

Has any other MAC athletic department had a worse performance against COVID-19 than we have?

worse performance? Or actually following guidelines and reporting as directed by the health department, the MAC and the administration at OHIO University. If you think for a second that every school is reporting equally, and in some cases reporting and testing at all, then you would be greatly disappointed.

I don't think all the shutdowns have been announced. Some of them were decided on a game-by-game basis. But looking at the standings, the teams that have played the fewest conference games are prime suspects. NIU, the Michigans and Ohio have all played 12-14 games. Buffalo and BSU have played 15 games but their postponements were sporadic, which is an indication that the other team had the problem. Fiami had a string of three games postponed/cancelled, so that was probably on them. Akron and Kent both had back-to-back OOC games cancelled early on. Toledo and BG have had few problems this season.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

And don't ignore possibility that some programs - us included - might use COVID as a convenient way to improve competitive situation...

If you're feeling ill, maybe find a message board about medicine. Though I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I might be able to help.

Agreed. It could in fact be that Ohio is reporting more than others, leading to this situation. Who knows. I feel bad for the teams put in the middle of this constant unknown. It has to be frustrating.

Insert string of bad words here.

We are 9 days from the Quarterfinals, I am still hopeful we'll be there.

IDC if our testing is more stringent than any other school in the league, this shouldn't be as hard as a school in the city. How in the world, for a school in the middle of nowhere, has Ohio had more games cancelled in the MAC than any other? I am in the same complex as the Toledo players up here in NW Ohio and they are beyond cooped up in terms of wearing masks and practicing social distancing. Somehow they haven't had the problems and that's with the medical systems hawking them like no other.

Claim what you want that Athens County is acting like Washtenaw County up in Michigan, but you're literally in a bubble in SE Ohio. If our student athletes can't follow protocols and avoid situations, then we might as well concede we aren't going to be in Cleveland next week.

As I understand it, once a player has been hit w/covid he does not have to be tested again for 90 days. If true, that means a lot of different players have been out of step over the season putting their teammates and the games in jeopardy.

If that's true.

Not sure I disagree with any of this. Add the fact that the women's team has been shut down as well as the football team in the fall. Makes me wonder how vigilant the players/students have been at our university.

The football team played 3 games last fall. The men's basketball team has played 20 so far and the women's team 18. Maybe we should be thankful we got those in but I'll bet these numbers are less than most of our peer universities.

Great point.

We should’ve exposed the entire team to COVID during our first outbreak like parents do with chicken pox to ensure we’d be good for the tournament.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Some of you people forget what is like to be a college student. College students all across the country are getting Covid. Games are being rescheduled or called off on a daily basis. Look at the programs that have played less conference games than Ohio. SMU 11, Wichita St. 11, UMASS 10, Richmond 11, Boston College 11, Louisville 12, Davidson 11, Baylor 11, Xavier 11, Texas A@M 8, East Carolina 10. This list goes on and on. Be thankful that any Bobcat athletic team was able to compete in the past 12 months.

Agree - We can declare all we want about being holier than thou in following guidelines and reporting - reality is we have been hit hard and its probably a combination of reporting and, very much, those involved not being vigilant. And yes, college kid will be college kids - even if they can dribble.
